these are for the Stgw 57. The ones that come with the Stgw 90 are slightly different due to the smaller caliber.

PE 90 cleaning kits use Velcro closure while the older Stgw 57 kits have cloth tie closures.

Is the cleaning rod too big to fit the 223?

Regardless of rod and bore size, the cleaning kit includes segmented rods. I would never put a segmented cleaning rod down any bore of any rifle I own.

5.56 < 7.5 The kit is good for 7.5x55, 7.62x51,30 Luger. The segments joints are made of brass. The threads are M5. Commercial brushes won't fit without an adapter

Almost as bad as pull-through devices or “snakes.”

Okay, if a cloth snake is cleaned regularly, it may take a long time for it to have any effect on the crown (I haven’t been able to really determine), but because of how they were inevitably pulled out at an angle the original pull-through devices the Europeans were enamored of used aluminum beads which were softer than brass, and at least one historian of military sniping has said they did terrible things to the crown and therefore to rifle accuracy. Merely because a segmented rod is brass or has brass components wouldn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I got mine today, both were complete and one had a special suprise ... A name tag maybe?

Yep ... that's all correct!
Like you, it would have to be an extreme situation that I would ever use one; if I had a stuck case and someone was shooting at me (its extremely unlikely), but is a situation that comes to mind!
But that's why it exists, for the battle field.

And ... they're only $10! ... AND they're kinda cool!

I may be a bit naive, but I've never seen a jag like the one in the kit (lower left corner)
I have two 223 kits that are very similar, the one I bought a few years ago for the 551 and one came with the 550 in the factory case, I'll have to look at the jags in those cases ... its been so long since I've even opened one I don't remember ... so maybe I have seen one, only smaller

Come to think of it, a similar but more modern kit (case has snaps) came with the SSG-3000, Its packed away in the attic but now I'll have to find find the box/case it came in and take a look at that jag too!

Segments join in a brass ferrule, not steel to steel.

No issue using these as no steel can possible touch or abrade the bore.

I got one (from a different dealer) to go with my AMT, not that it's a military variant.
