Recommendation for a shooting mat
Looking for a decent shooting mat. Any recommendations? Don't really have any specific criteria in mind, just to get the job done and not cost four arms and three legs.

I’ve used there mats for years and have held up very well. On hot paved areas or grass works well. Never tried anything else to compare.

The CrossTac may be more than you want to spend, but I like the folding design for a couple of reasons. If laid on dirt/mud, the dirt/mud isn’t transferred to the upper surface when folded for storage. Also, it’s quicker to deploy and fold up than a rolled mat, and it stays flat without fighting with the curl. And although it’s not something I’ve ever done, it can be used to carry something like a rifle a short distance by putting it in the fold and using the carry handles.

I've been using the US Peacekeeper mat for about 6 years now. I like that it is thick but not too thick, durable, wide (36 inches) and long (81) because I'm 6'4".

Like sigfreund explained, this one folds also with all the benefits he listed. I also like that I can leave it in position and fold one or two sections on to of itself so people don't walk on it or it covers stuff left on it.

I tend to favor Creedmore for quality mats.
My club bought some cheap Midway mats years back and I was not impressed.

Just a quick follow up. This thread forced me to look at my mat to get the name and I noticed that a couple of the keepers for the straps had issues. One was missing and another was broken.

I went to the company's website as I pasted above and sent them an email about the pieces. A few hours later I got an email back asking for pictures of the pieces. I took one with my smartphone and sent it last night. Just now, I got a reply back asking if them could send replacements parts. I said sure, asked how much and they replied back, no charge.

I love that kind of customer service. That mat is many years old and has seen hundreds of matches, getting thrown down, picked up, tossed aside, walked on, rained on, backed in the sun, etc. It still looks near-brand new as it cleans up really well. Now it will be back to perfection.

Thanks to O_A_M for starting this thread which prompted me to contact US Peacekeeper and experience excellent customer service.

Just a quick update. I just received the parts from US Peacekeeper via Fedex. I installed them on my mat and it's now in perfect condition. Incredible customer service.

Thread drift, but here's another REALLY Nice item from US PeaceKeeper --> https://www.uspeacekeeper.com/...cts/small-punch-roll

This 'Small Punch Roll' was recommended by a SF member in a thread about Armorer's Tools some time ago, and is about the nicest Armorers Punch Roll/Organizer I've come across. I highly recommend it! Wink

I don't own the US PeaceKeeper Tactical Shooting Mat...Yet, but I plan to soon! Cool

I agree with that. I have two of those punch rolls. Very nice.
