Interesting. What's the advantage of a conventional brass case with a steel base?

Less of the more expensive brass is used.

In addition, for containing chamber pressure when the cartridge fires, the head is the most critical part. A steel case head might be able to handle higher pressures than brass. I believe there was some mention of the cartridge’s being able to produce higher velocities, and the steel head may have something to do with that.

FWIW, there are a couple of recent similar threads. Yours is the first with a decent description of the “hybrid” case, though.
