I added one on my 187 series that I have had since the mid-80s when I was a tennager. While not as accurate as my other rifles (ARs, bolt, etc.), my Mini-14 is still fairly accurate and fun to shoot.

Nice. Thank you.

Copes has used tactical 5810 models for $800, that seems high.

The accuracy was SO BAD on the A teams AC 556's that they fired millions of rounds in that show and never hit anyone.....just cars and trucks.....so they must've had truck guns too, come to think of it. Big Grin

They weren't AC556s. They were just standard Mini-14 stainless folders with Federal Ordnance metal handguards.

The magazines they used were 40 rounders, nickel-plated, also made by Federal Ordnance.

The sounds of automatic weapons fire was simply sound that was dubbed in in post-production.

Oh, and those crappy looking Choate pin-on flash hiders. Ick.

Back when this show was on, you could buy a standard blued Mini-14 for less than 250 bucks. A Colt SP-1 would have run you just a hair over 400.

That's interesting stuff.

Now you can buy a Ruger AR for a hair over $400!

I thought I read somewhere that they chose the Mini-14 for the A-Team show instead of the AR15 at the time, was because the Mini-14 would still function after hundreds and thousands of rounds of dirty blank ammo, were as we know how some AR15's are with blanks. God Bless Smile

Mini-14 trivia:

If you look closely at the A-Team action photos above you will notice that the front sling swivels are positioned on the left and not at the bottom. That is a sure sign that these weapons originally came from Ruger with folding stocks. I have never seen any full stock Mini-14s originally equipped with left side front sling swivels. But, I have seen factory folders with bottom mounted ones.

In the 1985 edition of Assault Rifles there was a featured story praising the virtues of the AR-15 carbine. But, the story's leading photograph clearly shows a US State Department 'Operative' handling an AC-556F. I find that funny.

I love it!!

Great in-your-face history-context for all of us that remember the cursing and damning of the M16 back in the day.

Can't believe you found this clip.
HA!!

Priceless.

Thanks! That's my own clipping. Somehow I got an A-Team episode as a bonus with some other movie, and it happened to be this episode.

So it has been almost a year and the Gun Shop still has this older Mini-14 for sale. I still would like an older Mini 14. Why? I just do. May or may not be a truck gun. I have no real interest in putting a scope on it for now. It is a 181 series rifle. He wants $600 for it which I think is high due to the stock being after market. Should I low ball $450? I know he will want to move it.

Old model w/ a AM stock?

I'd go even lower to start.

Yeah, maybe that.

Chat with him a bit and see if he is married to the thing. Really, they aren't in high demand I don't think. And if it has been sitting around...
