Any good deals on 9mm Defensive Ammo? Login/Join

I have my favorite place for buying cheap target ammo, but their defensive ammo prices leave a LOT to be desired. I was wondering if anyone has found, recently, any good deals on quality defensive ammo (hopefully something on the standard "top 10 defensive ammo" lists that circulate around).

I'm still searching, but as there are a million places out there any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking of buying up to a case (but lesser amounts at good prices would be fine as well).

Bone Frog Gun Club typically has the best price on Federal HST 9mm.

It's usually $19-$22 per 50, whereas most other places sell it for $25-$35 per 50.

If I could get it at that low end I'd order a bunch.

Thanks -- I'll keep checking there.

SGAmmo is always a good place to check, but stock is starting to run low as election is close.

They still have some Federal HST 147 for $25.95 a box of 50 and Speer Gold Dots 124 +P.

Shipping is very reasonable.

Mass Ammo is also worth checking out and has some Federal HST 147 and 124 in stock for even a bit less at $22.50 box of 50. I have no personal experience with them though. $12.99 flat rate shipping.

Is this comparable to the 124gr +P HST? The muzzle velocity listed seems rather low for being 135gr +P.

LE9T5 is not HST. It uses a bonded version of an earlier Federal hollowpoint design, like the Hydra-Shok or Hi-Shok. And as noted, it has a lower velocity than P9HST3. (Its velocity is more comparable to the 147 grain HST loads.)

However, it still performs well in testing. Here are some comparison ballistic testing results between the two from DocGKR, in both bare gelatin and through 4 layers of denim. Note that the LE9T5 has slightly better penetration, but slightly less expansion, and slightly lower retained weight.

Fed HST 124 gr +P JHP (P9HST3) fired from 4.5" G17 at ave vel of 1208 f/s; 5 shot ave below:
BG: Pen = 12.2", Ave RD = 0.64", Ave RL = 0.38", Ave RW = 123.8gr
4LD: Pen = 14.4", Ave RD = 0.53", Ave RL = 0.39", Ave RW = 124.1 gr

9mm Fed 135 gr +P JHP (LE9T5) from 4" S&W 5906 at ave vel of 1069 f/s; 5 shot ave below:
BG: Pen = 16.0", Ave RD = 0.58", Ave RL = 0.36", Ave RW = 126.6 gr
4LD: Pen = 16.3", Ave RD = 0.55", Ave RL = 0.45", Ave RW = 134.0 gr

They offer a pretty good lineup of 9mm SD ammo.
