Found a couple boxes of 45ACP today, and this is what they put on them.

Crappy pics, but it says that if you see this for sale anywhere else, to call 1800WalMart.

Interesting. It doesnt come off without ripping the box either.

Not that anyone had any doubt that 80% of the ammo being scalped was from WM anyways, or that this will stop anyone. My FFL has a contact at WM bringing them Cases of the stuff. Eek I've seen the boxes on the floor with Mal-Mart on the shipping label. Roll Eyes

WOW, that's blurred. Eek I kind of like the idea, myself.

I saw a local gun shop with three boxes of WINCHESTER "White Box" (50#) in .357sig fmj the other day. I'd be willing to bet that they got it at WALMART, just down the road.

The price at WALMART is/was $23.97 the last time I saw any, but the shop had it marked up to $35.97 and it was getting a bit dusty...

So what could Walmart do to a re-seller? And, would they do anything? Is it just for intimidation?

Once you give Walmart $$ for the product....isn't it yours, to do with as you desire? Can Walmart stop you from reselling anything else? TV's, computers, CD's...??

Doubt if Wally could do much, but it lets the buyer know that the box came from Wally World and probably was about $9.00. . . buyer be ware!!!

I have seen them do that with some drugs before. Can't remember if it was Zyrtec, or some other higher priced OTC...but that sticker is familiar to me.

I don't care that they put the stickers on it, and doubt they could do anything to stop the resale. I just found it interesting.

Well, WalMart can't do anything about the reseller. But they limited the supply anywhere from 2 to 6 boxes per person, so it doesn't make sense financially for reseller to go buy it at Walmart and resell for profit. 380 might be the only exception here. Anyways, if a big reseller like a range or a gun shop is selling this stuff, then some Walmarts nearby are having a "leak". Employees are selling the whole case rather than putting it up for sale. Walmart would investigate the leak, and take action against the employees.

I like this idea. It helps me find ammo more easily at Walmart.

The WM that I usually go to had plenty of ammo and NO LIMITS at all (anymore ~ used to be 6 boxes). Like many of us had said to those who chronically complained ~ this will take care of itself with supply and demand and now it is coming true.

I would imagine that Walmarts only recourse could be to tell the person selling the ammo that they were no longer welcome in any Walmart stores. If they show up and security identifies them then they could be given a no trespass notice by the local PD. Not sure if it would ever come to that but Walmart has done some bizzare things in the past.

This is unfrickin believable. How does any asshole think they can tell someone what to do with something you paid for?

I don't shop at Walmart. I don't resell ammo. I buy from Natchezss.com, the CMP, Weidner's, Midwayusa, Brownell's and similar.

Why the frick isn't the Big O Hole putting stickers on the $4,500 rebate cars they can't be resold?

What the frick is happening to Capitalism?

That's just it. Manufacturers can tell resellers how to sell their product, and where they can buy it from.

I am not saying this is happening in this case, but I bet WalMart gets special procing and other resellers get their pricing...it may be in the contract that reseller A must buy from Distributor A, and not from WalMart.

I see this in my industry...Cisco likes to tell resellers what they can and can't buy. The penalty...can be a revocation of official reseller status. This means little to most, but it can ruin a company who relies on Cisco sales. The same may apply to the bullet market. It may be against Federal rules for Federal ammo to be bought from WalMart for resale. This would not be a problem for anyone who does not already have an agreement in place with Federal...but if they do, Federal may get upset, and do things as a result.

There are a lot of assumptions about what that sticker is for.

Has anyone ever considered it might be just to notify the consumer that they are buying ammo at a cost higher then what they would pay in the store?

And when that consumers comes in the store Walmart has the chance of getting other items, like a blender, or what not? So Walmart gets more of your money.

I know it is being done up here. A local dealer stops in with his wife and knows when the shelves are stocked and buys 12 boxes (6 each).
Then they appear on his shelves. I doubt anyone doesn't know where he is getting it from although the usual WW bulk packs have seemed to dry up only to be replaced by Federal.

Another local dealer had a very good supply of 9 and 40 at a reasonable price but this dealer never scalped the consumer during the lean times and his customer base stayed loyal.

I can't read the actual labal but I guess it's the Not for Resale I see from time to time. I think someone hit it right on the head with the market will take care of it.

EXACTLY!

What I see there is the retail marketing game. Wally did not get where it is by passively sitting on their hands. If you have ever worked in retail, you know that 95% of selling someone something is getting them in the door.

The little sticker on the box of ammo is a reminder that no matter what the person at the gun show or shop is selling it for, Wally has it for $8.97. . . and while you are there why not pick up a few other items. This is nothing but slick marketing. Remember that on that box of Federal ammo now Wally has his name also and all he has to do is instruct his employee to put it there. I would not be surprised if their marketing and legal people have looked into an OEM deal with the manufacturer that would have Wal-Mart printed on the carton????? The littel sticker is cheap, quick, and easy. Just my take?????
