Here in Colorado I'm seeing good availability on rifle ammo, lots on the shelf at Walmart, they even have bulk packs of 223Rem., but as usual, the handgun ammo shelf is always empty, except for the lone box or two of overpriced 357SIG. I'm seeing the same trend at gun shows, plenty of rifle ammo at reasonable prices, but pistol ammo, if on the table is over-priced. An example: I bought some Fed Champion 9mm at Walmart for $8.50 a box (when they have it), and saw the same stuff at the Denver gun show for $22.00 a box... unbeleivable!

Howdy! Im in Northglenn. I give the price gougers a lot of grief when I used to go to shows. If nobody buys their overpriced generic ammo then they will be forced to drop to reasonable prices.

If the gun show dealers are actually selling at that price, I need to think about joining them.
I'm seeing the same thing with pistol vs. rifle availability at local stores. Walmart's prices are good, but that's probably why they sometimes don't have ammo. Gander Mountain has near-gunshow prices ($18-20 on 9mm) and lots of ammo. When they have it, Bass Pro has 9mm around $13. Firing Line (Aurora) case price is about $14 a box, if I remember correctly. If you're in Fort Collins, go to Jensen Arms -- good prices and usually good supplies. Sportsman's Warehouse can have decent prices on ammo (Thornton, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs), but their supplies can be hit or miss -- last week I saw HSM 9mm at $12.
I have been fortunate that most of my summer & fall shooting has been shotgun (trap loads are cheap and available) and .22LR (from my own stash built up last year).
