I moved into a house where I must store my ammunition in the garage - a first for me. My question is, will the ammunition be ok in the garage for long-term storage ? I live in VA along the eastern coast, where the winters aren't too cold, but the summers can be hot and very humid. So what do you think guys ??? Is this ok, and if it's not, what can I do about it, short of bringing the ammunition back into the house, which is not an option for me.

I think that as long as you keep it dry, it should last 30 years or more.....

I keep most (about 15,000 rounds) of my ammo in the garage, which (if you didn't know already) is a lot more hot and humid than yours.

How long have you stored you ammo like that, and what state do you live in that's hotter than VA ?

I've kept "ALL"of my ammo stored in an open(half walled)garage just North of Houston for 15 years and have had ZERO issues with said ammo.Stored in a Aluminum cabinet with 1 Golden Rod only.Even the 22 ammo has worked flawlessly.

OH, the youth who don't know who Crocket and Tubbs are. It pains me to be feeling so old!

They were the "stars" of Miami Vice. You know, the pointy state. North Cuba....

BTW - how much have you traveled if you think Virginia is even in the warm category on balance? Razz

It's Alabama - do the math

New Orleans in August. That's HOT and HUMID. BUT, how much heat and HUMIDITY can stored ammunition take before it breaks down ? I know reloaders keep their powder indoors, not in garages. So, what about ammo ? Where is the line ?

Florida, where 100% humidity is "just another day". Most of the ammo that I store in my garage are cases. It's all Russian ammo, which, besides being inside cardboard boxes, are also in sealed plastic bags inside those boxes. I also have sealed tins of ammo as well. They've been stored for over 5 years, and are in perfect condition.

I have about 12 cases of 9mm scattered around inside the house. Not because I didn't want to store it in the garage, but because there's no more room in there! I also keep cars in there!
