I just came home with a load. Winchester and Remington Target loads in 12 & 20 are on sale for $4.50 and $5.00 a box.

They were marked down this morning.

They do that every year when Dove season rolls around, which is just around the corner. You USED to be able to get a box of 25 for 2.99 each. THAT was a good deal. Guys would go in a buy multiple cases for 29.99 each.

Yeah 12 gauge prices have seemingly tripled in the last 12 months. Used to be able to find good deals at the odd WalMart or Dicks but no more. Hell I would almost rather the price of lead took a dive than the price of oil.

Just stay away from the Winchester "Super Speed" I hated those things, I bought a flat a few years back and shot 1 box. Ended up giving away the other 9 boxes. They were the worst shooting shotgun shells I have ever used. When they say Super Speed, they mean it...You have to totally retrain yourself how to shoot with these things. The velocity is almost double a standard shotgun round. I bought #8's and couldn't hit ANYTHING with them. I patterned a couple rounds on a sheet of plywood at about 20 yards and it punched a clean hole about 6" around. Then the next round I couldn't keep it all on the board. Talk about erratic results.

I went back to shooting S&B and Remington and have not had a problem since. And I've used stacks of Winchester AA and other Winchester shells. But those...whew...no thanks. I gave my other 9 boxes to my boss. He can't hit anything anyway, mainly because he never goes anywhere either. But I made him happy.

I've actually had my best results with the Federal 4-packs from WalMart. Started shooting 1 1/8 #7s and they were great. Thought they would be too much but they have been great especially for sporting clays. Plus they are still @$20 4/pack.

Yeah I have seen those, same basic packaging as the bulk .22 stuff IIRC. Thanks for the tip on those, I'll check that out next trip

I think those federal 100 packs smell like potpourri. They smell very good, and I like them. All I need is to get someone who can actually throw a clay reasonably well to come along and I'll be cooking with gas.
