I think the supply is getting back to normal, now I'm just waiting for prices to drop.

Friday I went to a local sporting good store, Academy sports, Dicks, and Walmart.

The first 3 were full stocked with PLENTY of ammo. Well, except .380. Big Grin
Walmart had a couple cases of Blazer Brass .45 and .40 S&W, but no .380 or 9mm.

There ammo is there, but I'm not paying $14.99 for Remington UMC greenbox. I'd rather shoot Monarch Brass for $9.99.

I spent the weekend back in my home town in northern Idaho, where there is an ATK plant.

The Walmart there received zero ammo during the four days I was there.

One local store had about five boxes of 124gr Federal American Eagle for $17 a box of 50. No thanks.

Another local store was selling bulk ammo in brown paper bags for $18 per 50. I think this ammo was probably factory or someone's reloads. Again, no thanks!

The last local store had some ammo. About 10 boxes of 124gr Blazer Aluminum for $11 per box of 50. They also had 115gr and 147gr Federal American Eagle for $13 per box of 50. I went back three times and purchased everything thing they had. This was the first ammo that I've seen at a somewhat decent price in months.

The supply of ammo maybe coming back, but it's definetly not nationwide.

I check the 3 Walmarts in my area I get lucky at usually 1 for ammo.
8.97 per 50 for Federal 9mm and 10.47 for Remington. Both 115 gr. fmj.
I usually pick up 4 boxes or so at a time.
They usually have more .40 & .357 (or .38) than 9mm or .45. All are very affordable. No outrageous price increases like you see or read about. Like the guys selling their 100 rnd WWB for 3 times what they paid, etc...

It's interesing the west coast has cheaper ammo than out here. I've seen posts of 9mm Blazer Brass going for $8.97/50 in Walmarts. $8.97 for Federal is pretty good too. I was paying that per box (for a case) for Blazer Alum just a little over a year or so ago.

The last few times I've been to Wal Mart they have had 9mm, .40, and .45. Finally got my personal stash to 1000 9mm. So I'm done. Smile

I stopped by our local Wally World over the weekend to get some grass seed. Checked sporting goods just to see what was there. They had two rows 5 boxes high of 9mm Blazer Brass at $8.97 with, I think, another 10 boxes behind. Lots of 40 S&W. A sign telling their ID requirements blocked what I think was a bunch of 45 ACP. And they had LOTS of 223. So there's no problem here. I didn't need anything so left it all for the hoarders. Wink Maybe it's gone now.

****OKAY, update from PHX metro area.***

I’m starting to see more of all ammo calibers, city wide at the gun shops. .380 is spotty, and stills the hardest to find. I have found 6 boxes of .380 and one box of Pow'RBall 70gr 1100fps for 29.99+tax in the past week. The prices are all higher than in the past. Sportsman, Cabela’s, BassPro, and Walmart have not raised prices, but it’s harder to find ammo at these places.

If you went into the horded thing, you beat the high prices of today.

If you horded .380 back in the day you have gold in hand that looks like brass and lead.

9 mo. It might get better but prices will be higher. Everything costs more from food to metal.

I doubt they'll ever go down significantly again.

Like with gasoline prices, the public has demonstrated that they're willing to pay the high prices, so there's no incentive for companies to lower them.

Gas was $4.11 in July 2008

It is now $2.61

Not really a very good example.

In this area things are getting better. Saw a case of 100 WWB at Wally world. Bought some 22LR at $9.99 for 333 rounds. Not too bad.

There was also lots of 40 S&W

and some 45 Winchester hollow points.

The last 6-7 times in a row I have been to my local Walmart, I have been able to get Blazer Brass 9mm for $8.97 a box. Yesterday they even had some of the 100 rd Federal .223 value packs for the same $39.97 that they cost last year.

There is plenty of ammo at the ranges and the stores locally in the Houston area. The online dealers seem to still be struggling though.

Because rather than hoard gallons and gallons of gasoline, Americans have reduced consumption and decreased demand, thus increasing supply.

Ammo is abundant here as well. The only things that seem to be yet hard to get is primers.

Its definitely getting better in the amount of supply available locally. The prices are still too high but are starting to level off slightly.

Give it a few more months with more and more people out of work and we should see demand drop even more.

We are coming up onto 5 months since I posted this.

AZ. Most gun shops have most ammo calibers back, still at higher prices. .380, .357, and .45 is still the hard one's to find. If you do it's not cheap.

Walmarts still a hit and miss, but mostly a miss. Most people seem to be going to Walmart because it's still cheaper if you get lucky finding it.

I got lucky last week finding 5 boxes of Federal .45 at two different stores.

The local scheels store had tons of 9mm and 223. The most I have seen in a long time. I have even gotten primers delivered from cabalas in two weeks. So I think the supply is getting better.
I just found a box of large rifle primers in the shop with an price tag of $.83 per 100. I doubt the prices will go down much.

It is interesting LOL

Price will NEVER get back to "normal." At least here in California. Online ammo sale is banned, so competition is reduced significantly. In 18 months we will have to give up our name, ID, and a fingerprint to buy handgun ammo. I think they'll want DNA soon after.

SO, no competition, price will be higher than the free state.

As far as ammo shortage, it's getting much much better now. It's not the matter of finding ammo any more, but finding it at the right price. So, needs has been satisfied. Wants, is still being back ordered. When Cabelas, Basspro, and suchs fulfill all their backorders, prices will drop faster than gravity, and there'll be truckload of ammo at walmart.

By the way, Thanksgiving and christmas is coming. People are shopping and there'll be less money in pocket for ammo. If the manufacture is really running 24/7, ammo will be avaiable not on straight line curve, but exponentially. Don't settle for sub par ammo now, you'll get your chances, and get it soon ....

Here in Northeast Illinois for a while some local Walmarts had pretty good supplies of 9MM and .40. But in the last couple months I have not seen any 9MM to speak of though .40 is plentiful and .45 is rare. Though I have a pretty fair amount of 9MM I am going to stockpile some more when I find any at Walmart. Local gun store has pallets of everything but 9MM practice ammo is like $17 per 50 and up.

I really fear the whole California situation as I feel that will be the model for many other states soon. Once they ban mail order they can then tax the crap out of ammo so that it will cost $100 for a box of 50.

Here in South Florida there is still a huge shortage of pistol ammo. Rifle ammo is everywhere....bass pro/outdoor world, walmart etc. BUT, I haven't seen .45 or 9mm on shelves of Walmart or Outdoor world in a year and a half......I saw 1000 rounds of .40 caliber federal champion at walmart 1 time a month ago...it was all gone the next morning when I went to buy it....they have a stupid policy where they don't sell ammo after 9pm or some nonsense......and 1 box of .44 mag another time and that is IT.
