If you view at least quickly vote...

We are over 6 months of this ammo hunting BS. It’s old, and I’m tired of it. Based on how thing are going my guess is 12 months before the ammo stock/pricing is back to normal…

Hitting Walmart’s everyday is more of a chore anymore. My ammo storage ideas have change. I don’t want to shoot what I have in stock, so I’m always looking to buy more so I can go shooting.

I get lucking finding Walmart ammo because I hit at least 2 a day. That because I drive around when working. Many people don’t get to search like I do, but still want ammo. Lots of people across the nation are look for ammo these days. I know guys that have the money but can’t find the ammo, and ordering on line isn’t helping that much.

I know some think that ammo stock and prices will come down fast due to people will have to shoot their stock down. I’m not going to keep a small stock on hand anymore so I don't buy the fact that people will be shooting their stock down that much. I could be wrong, but times have changed. Hoping they don’t change more…

The President in office, the war, the new gun owners, the scalpers, the hoarders, and the weekend shooters have all added to the problem of ammo supplies and pricing.

When will it end! Or - do you thing the pricing and stock will return back to normal at different times of each other…

Question:
When do you think the ammo stock/pricing will back to normal?

Time will tell...

Choices:
6 weeks
3 months
6 months
9 months
12 months
16 months
20 months
2 years
3 years
Next President

I think the "Normal" prices might never be seen again. How low do they have to go to get back to normal? I think part of it is also, there are so many first time shooters. People who had never owned a gun, but then come November 2008, decided to buy one. They then also need to shoot it. That caused a short run on the ammo, then people started hoarding.

Right now, I think there is some supply catching up to demand ( I was able to buy 800 rds locally and another 500 online at decent prices) , but not near enough to make prices come down. Yes, you will see the rediculous prices start to subside, but finding really good prices besides WallyWorld, might take forever.

All of this assuming that the Political climate stays calm (relative term) on the gun/ammo issues. If something there changes, kiss anything normal good bye. Then you also have to get the doom and gloomers to stop scaring people. I was in a shop thursday and the guys in there were like, "oh, we havent seen the worst yet, itll get worse. 500% tax on ammo is being legislated right now.."

Idiots.

Im like you, just trying to keep what I have, and shoot what I can find. If it doesnt get better, I'll be downsizing calibers and start reloading. Although I dont think finding primers is any easier.

I voted six months because I think I'm already seeing prices starting to fall. I don't know that it will ever be what it was, but I believe the worst may be over.

We are in uncharted waters. The world situation economically and politically is very different and things have changed as promised.

First, I don't think there is any such thing as 'normal'.

But we are seeing inventories rise now especially in AR's & parts but not very much of a drop in price ~ yet.

Ammo, IMO has not reached that level of the higher inventories (just an observation) with the exception that the compete outages are lessor.

I think you will see a drop in prices on AR & related 6-9 months and ammo in 12-15 mo.

Anyone's guess though.

i voted 12 months. soon people will start to see that this is all generated by the ammo companys. i would not be shocked if obama had stock in some ammo companys. if he was smart he would.

Not sure how true…

Talking to a gun store owner today that’s said he has an inside contact that told him the ammo manufactures are not geared up and running 210%, 24/7 like they say they are.

It hurt the ammo manufactures when they geared up when Clinton was voted in and it hurt them more after the fact. So they are not trying to increase production. So business is normal day by day as it was before ammo shortage.

Again not sure how true, but sounds somewhat true due to what we are seeing that much more ammo out there, regardless of the demand.

He did say all the new gun owners are a big part of the problem. He is still selling guns like crazy...

Bought the last 2 boxes of .45 for myself and last 2 boxes of 10mm for a friend. Wasn’t cheap! Another friend found .380 last week for $40 for 50rd box.

I simply cannot believe that munitions producers are running at 210%. Sorry. The nation's war footing should only effect military calbers, not .32, .40, 10mm, or even .45. I can understand .380 and .357SIG being in short supply, but not the others. I believe something else is going on that these producers are privy to and we aren't. Perhaps the EPA is gearing up to ban lead bullets and these manufacturers are now behind the 8 ball. The current shortage isn't going to pass, I think, because our current generation of ammo is being replaced by more expensive and more PC stuff.

Voted 12 months. A while back I read (in the Wahington Post) that ammo companies were slowing production for the commercial market to focus on military production. Once the not winnalbe war on terror slows, maybe the ammo companies will beef up production for the civilian market.

To be honest I think with the economy looking like it's about to tank that prices will reduce but possibly never return to normal. The current administration hasn't discovered they don't know how to drive (the economy) yet. Either they will (bad) or they'll crash the car (worse). It's not about the "dollars" per case, but about buying power. Who knows where that will land.

I voted 9 months. 12 months is unbearable and 6 months is optimistic LOL. This of course is assuming that el-presidente' and congress don't fire up gun control.

BTW - I don't see new gun owners as a problem even if they are contributing to the shortage of ammo and higher prices. More people supporting the 2nd amendment and enjoying our hobby Wink .

Ammo is showing up now. If we all stop hording and paying outrageous prices the market will stabilize.

I can find 9mm ammo at one of the 3 Walmarts in my area on most days. Simply call ahead.

They have also had 40 S&W and 223 55 grain.

Not so out here in the southwest U.S. People are still in crisis mode, and the thought of leaving some ammo at the counter for the next guy is not even in the realm of possibilities. Most days, there is a line at the ammo counter at the area WMs at about 7am waiting to buy up what few boxes there are. If you have a normal day job like I do, forget it. It's going to take a few more weeks/months and stores exercising limits for the rest of us to get a decent shot at getting some ammo.

I went to a couple of local shops today. Ammo as far as the eye can see (on pallets). 9mm is running between $13.20 and $13.99/50 depending on manufacturer. A few dozen 5.56 and 7.62 black rifles. Lots of handguns and shotguns. Said that gun sales had crawled almost to a halt. Ammo sales is back down to normal levels. I asked the owner of one of the store this question, and he said supply is likely to catch up. Price will not, and that is the reason he has ammo on the floor now. He also said he wasn't marking ammo up alot. Also, had a bunch of Russian looking marked boxes of primers of all sorts.

The other store I went to was still smoking heavy doses of crack. $29.99/50 for .45acp ball. $2500 for a Armalight AR10 standard carbine.

As those much wiser than I have already stated, this is an unusual time in the firearms industry. There are many forces outside our individual control that are exacerbating the situation. However, as gun owners, we are likely part of the ammo problem.

For one thing, panic buying of ammo continues to fuel the fire. In my own case, I have virtually shut down ammo purchases. Of course, being laid off is a good incentive to trim spending. My 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP ammo stocks are down to a few boxes, but at the rate I'm shooting them, I have a quite a few months' supply. Razz So be it if I run out.

I'm now shooting only .22LR because (1) I have an OK supply, (2) with a little planning I can find more, and (3) it's cheap. If the .22LR option dries up, I'll learn how to shoot trap, as target shotgun ammo is available by the truckload at local shops. And if shot ammo dries up, I'll just switch over to climbing, hiking, golf, bowling, basket weaving, beer drinking, watching TV, or whatever.

I'm hoping that sooner or later cooler heads will prevail, and we will get through this whacky period. If it takes awhile, so be it. Don't get me wrong -- I enjoy putting rounds down range as much as the next guy, but I also have other things to keep me engaged if shooting becomes a major challenge.

I'm thinking another year or so. However, if Obama were to ramp up the anti-gun talk or try to gets some new guns laws passed, you'd see another rush of panic buying. Not sure prices will ever be back to normal.

I guess that all depends on what you believe is driving the price up.

No matter what caused it however, as long as we continue to buy at the current market, the MFG has no reason to lower the price. If we quit buying, supply rebuilds, and even if the MFG tries to hold out and sit on inventory, its gonna cost em in the long run.

Just like any other panic buying though. And in the interest of full disclosure, I have purchased a few hundred rounds of overpriced .223 lately!

USP Tactical .45
Kimber STS II .45
Sig 220R Carry Two Tone .45
Sig 220R Carry Nitron .45
Sig 229R Nitron 9mm
More long guns than I can list...

As someone mentioned here the other day, I think the Wal-mart company are the heros in this whole fiasco. The stores I have visited have not raised their prices by so much as a penny.
