New California law effective July 1, 2010 prohits the sale of ammo in anything other than a face-to-face transaction. So there goes internet purchases of ammo for Californians other than FFL holders. BTW, if you buy ammo in California after July 1, 2010, be prepared to show your government ID and be finger printed. I'm not making this up.

You are correct. I was looking at the original bill, which had the 2010 effective date. Thanks for pointing that out.

So when are Californians going to stop taking this bullshit and give the government a good flush?!? They're long overdue!

It's now or never California! The outrage needs to be heard LOUDLY! Mad

I wonder if people that reload and reloading components are included/affected?

I found this particulary amusing:

"The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local
agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the
state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that
reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this
act for a specified reason."

Maybe it's because they don't have any freak'in money and their IOUs are as good as toilet paper? Roll Eyes

Unfortunately, "we" are in the minority. Thousands of calls were made in opposition to this and other bills. One was vetoed, gunshow closure at the Cow Palace, but this one sadly was approved by Gov. Benedict Arnold.
Reloading comps are NOT included. It affects handgun ammo to where you need a finger print so basically eliminating the possibility of mail order ammo. Lawsuits have been filed with regards to interstate commerce federal laws.

R-E-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S.

California should "rise up". When the Rodney King thing went down (and I don't know enough about it to side or take a position) California didn't remain seated, why now?

Hopefully the lawsuits pending for blocking the restriction of non-face to face ammo sales in California will be effective.

In the mean time, you guys out in California need to be careful about all that hoarding. All that extra weight may just finally cause California to break off and fall into the ocean. I'd really hate to see all that ammo go to waste. Wink

actually this is GOOD news for Mississippi!

In 2011 there will be that many less ammo hoarders to contend with in order to get my ammo shipped from Cabelas. (waiting on backorders since May 2009)

This is a sad loss of freedom (again) for the law abiding gun owners in California. All ammo sales will have to be logged at your dealer, I suppose so they can keep track of who is buying and how much. No internet ammo orders at all. This on top of all of the other ridiculous laws. They have already been tracking firearms coming into the State since July '08. Sad indeed.

Wow, so you think any of the millions of California gun owners are going to be buying ammo in bulk by mail order in the next 16 months? I know if I were in California, I would be buying all I could now because after Feb 2011, the local shops will be able to charge whatever they want and claim "paperwork and demand" are the cause of the $2/round price tag for 9mm. They are also banning the sale from person to person of more than 50 rounds, so the gun shop will be the only place to buy and that's only until they figure out a way to declare gun shops illegal ammo depot's and close them down.
Ammo will be hard to get for at least another 16 months... Frown

Hell, Kalifornia is already broke/busted! Nobody wants their IOU's! By February 2011 I think they will have much more to worry about than enforcing this retarded law. YMMV

I just started my second wave of hoarding with some 9BPLE to add to the stockpile...

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the galleys, heard in the very hall of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor - he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and wears their face and their garment, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation - he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city - he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. ∑ Cicero, 42 B.C.

This only applies to HANDGUN ammo. Rifle rounds are not affected.

I can already see dealers refusing to sell rifle ammo even though they are not subjected to ID check.

Add Micro-Stamping and a limited time period to use grandfathered ammo and you have a really nice method of control.

Heck I'd make you recycle the bullets. You'll have to bring back the spent ones to exchange for new ones. 100 life time limit- what do you need more than 100 for and if you lose them all you have no one to blame but yourself. Plus the EPA doesn't like the unregulated disposal of lead so they’ll be sending a $1000 fine for each bullet you’ve lost.

I don't think CA people can call it hoarding anymore.
Hoarding is going to be a way of life. Can you really call it hoarding.

More like your stash, even though it takes up a small room.

I need to open a new gun store in Quartzsite.

The 50 round limit has been struck from the final legislative language. Please do not spread false information.
