Bring pants and jackets. I'd come ready for a bit of light snow and wind cold as a well digger's farts. That time last year there was ice on the passes until about 10am each day, so caution will be prudent. GGI should be moved in to the new shop by then and we should be able to house everybody locally so that nobody has to make the drive over any passes daily. Per Flork, we can expect the following:

  • Normal High: 67°F
  • Normal Low: 37°F
  • Normal Average: 52°F

Enrollment

  • lostlogic - PIF

  • SB - DEP
  • Stlhead - PIF

Shouldn't that be 600 rounds of pistol and 1500 rounds of carbine ammo?

Rock, rock on!

Can't wait.

Gotta either get a properly fitting tactical vest or some other means of carrying all of my kit.

I take it that those attending the Skill Builder on Friday are exempt from the prerequisite?

Brandon,
Correct. Those attending the Skill Builder on Friday will have satisfied the pre-requisite for the Pistol/Carbine course.

DCM7-

Couple of questions.....

-What's the training schedule going to be like, pistol on Saturday and rifle on Sunday? Or a mix of both?

-Do you really think the students will burn through 1500 rounds of rifle in two days?

-Who is teaching what portions of the class? And can we get a little more background on the instructors besides Bruce and Scott?

-Is this class geared more towards how to shoot a carbine and pistol, or to the finer points of how to fight with a carbine and pistol?

Please don't take any of this like I'm challenging your guy's course, I just try and do as much homework on training courses before I throw my money down on it. Wink I've taken Grayguns pistol classes before, would just like to know a bit more about the other instructors and the rifle side of this class.

Thanks.

You should probably look into something simple like a chest rig.

This one is very popular: Eagle/SKD Rig

Mr. J,
No challenge taken and thank you for your questions. The lead on this course is Jerry Jones. He will be along to answer your content related questions. Thank you and hopefully we will see you in Spray this October.

Mr. J,

Let me take a stab at some of your questions. The actual round count by the sylabus is around 1200. But, you want to have enough extra in case you have catastophic problems along the way. Plus, friendly competition tends to eat up a few more rounds than budgeted. Alot of people benchmark a course by the number of rounds fired, we try to stay loose on that fact, as its about learning and reinforcing technique, and not burning brass.

The course will begin on Saturday, and the will be split in two. Half the class will zero rifles and work on positional shooting, the other half will work on a condensed skill builder, then switch. The class will then be put back together. After that students will be introduced, (or reintroduced as this is nothing new) on things such as mechanical offset, reloads, stoppages, mindset, transitions, , transistional targets, and shooting on the move.

Sunday will be more of the same and to include the skills you learned the previous day plus shooting moving targets and tactical scenarios.

I personally hate to label a class as a "technical" or "fighting" class as they seem to be done to death. The absolute worst part of some of the so truck driver so called "fighting" schools, is that they teach poor gun handling, and bad tactics at the expense of looking cool and putting asses in seats (and on the line).

What the student can expect from this class. To have the technical profiency to put rounds on a target that they are legally and morally cleared to engage, while under stress. To engage a moving target at a distance, and score hits. To engage targets in tactical scenairos, that may be moving or partially exposed (or moving, partially exposed, and have a 3D close proximity hostage), and have the confidence to engage the target and score hits. Or have the personal judgement skills to know that there is no way the shooter would attempt that shot in real life, which there is alot of merit in. Also to be noted, most all the shooters we train will never be faced with these types of shots. But shooting them in training builds confidence, in both the shooter and equipement. The course is also a good judge of you weapons and gear to find what works and doesn't.

Will is being very generous in my title. I am just a small cog in the GGI machine. My relevant background is nearing 15 years as a police officer, with a heavy operational background in police special operations. I have been a firearms instructor since 1997, when I graduated from the FBI firearms instructor school. A decade ago, I was one of a handful of certifed sniper instructors in the state, and to date the only non state police employed instructor to teach long rifle under the State Police umbrella, to local, state, and federal agencies. I am also a state certified carbine instructor, and teach at two of the four police academys in the state as an adjunct instructor. I am currently in the pipeline to become a full fledged state level instructor, to be completed in Sept, with my first assignment being to work with the state firearms coordinator, in revamping the states patrol rifle program. My current full time job is as a K9 handler with a multijuridictional task force.

I have been teaching for Bruce for a couple of years now, and recently named the senior staff instructor for GGI.

If you need anymore info, give me a shout.

Hope this helps, Jones.

Jerry, assuming that the Friday skill builder runs, will there be any particular tweaks to the Saturday morning curriculum for those folks that take three total days of training?

Thanks!

Brandon, are you asking if the skill builder guys from Friday will move on while the other guys work on condensed skill builder? If that is the case, yes. We will most likely use that as a mechanism to divide the class. Shoot me an email and we'll discuss further.

Have a great weekend everyone!

If anybody (who can legally own one in their state) wants to purchase a 556 and have us outfit it for them, please let me know so I can get the rifle ordered and on the way.

About the 556. I'm starting to create an after market for these beauties. Anybody interested in adding an accessory rail to their 556 that has the 551 hand guards? I've got something really cool on the horizon....keep your eyes peeled.

The only 556 thing I _really_ want is a Sig height folding front iron that's narrower than the stock blade.
