Been thinking of doing this for awhile. There is a match about 75 miles from me tomorrow. Thinking of riding my MC to it and giving it a shot.
Never done anything like it. Here is what I am thinking of taking. P229R 9mm 300 rds of wwb Electronic hearing 3 hi cap mags I wear corrective lenses, Will those do? Rafter leather owb holster Milt sparks gun belt Galco doube mag carrier hat sun screen its going to be hot. near 100! lotsa water good shoes. What else. I am going by myself. I do not know anyone there. Never been to the range or one of these events. Please educate me on what I can expect and anything I should be prepared for, or any advice. I have shot for quite a few years now. I am no expert by any means. I am committing myself to challange myself and increase my skill level. I think I won't do great, but I am not afraid either. Please help me out. thanks. "Practice like you want to play in the game" |

Is that all the magazines you have? If you own more, take them.
Folks will be helpful. |

Thanks, I see on the website is says four. Can you use 20 round swat mags? Id so, Is there an advantage to using super hi cap mags like the 20 rounders? "Practice like you want to play in the game" |

First time out, they will likely let you use anything that will go Bang.
The natural home in USPSA for your gun is Production Divison which limits you to ten in the magazine, so you need a lot of them to get through a long field course. Or you can go ahead and enter in Limited and load them up, which will give you better ammo management. There are some disadvantages to that but you would not notice them starting out. Ask when you get there what they recommend you do to have the best experience. |

Take your time. Be accurate before going fast.
Don't let the Hosers intimidate you or push you beyond safe/accurate. Let the RO's know you're new to the sport> They will put you in the back of the squad. Use it to watch how other shooters game the stages. The RO's should assist you with all the COF's. You'll do fine Mark...Go get em! Trust me, your gonna have fun and perhaps get hooked __________________________ __________________________ |

Ok I did it. First let me say it was a lot of fun. It really was. The shoot was a 90 mile drive one way and I decided I would ride my motorcyle. It took me about 20 minutes to unwind and relax after riding my dual sport 90 miles at 70 mph
Once there the club president introduced me to the range officers that were going to be in charge of doing the production class with the new and inexperienced group. We had nine people in my group which included one woman who happened to be shooting the same pitol as me. A Sig P229 in 9mm. We had a couple of Glocks and the rest were 1911's. Two of the guys had 1911 issues, the other three did not. We shot five stages I believe. I felt pretty comfortable with all of them for the most part. I would say I shot two pretty well and the other three were so, so. Meaning I had a few shots not placed as well as I would of liked. Overall, for my first time I felt pretty good. I did learn several things. BTW, that was my reasoning for do it, along with challaging myself. For whatever reason I have been slightly pulling back on the hammer when decocking my Sig to take some pressure off the decocker. That was pointed out pretty quick. My realoading timing was not always ideal. That will come with more time and experience. I also had a tendency to point the firearm at the ground instead of down range especially when on the move to engauge a new target. the RO's were pretty good and not overly condesending. One a little better than the other. Overall, they were good. I am really happy I did it and they have a classification match next month that I will try to attend. Good for you, I did the same thing three weeks ago. I went to an IDPA match for the first time, I went alone and knew no one there. It went well, my goal is the same as yours...to learn. I shut my mouth and took constructive critism well...even seeking it out as i went!
I will be shooting a classifier in a couple of weeks.....godd luck to you. ________________________ no matter where you go...there you are |

Sounds like you had fun and did every thing right. One question are you hooked?

Good for you too ccode. As far as being hooked tenringx. I did like it a lot and plan to do the classifier next month and join the association. It is quite a distance to any location that I have to travel which is a drawback. But, I do have the bug now

Glad to hear you had fun ORC! I, too, just shot my first USPSA match this past Sunday and it was a lot of fun. I need more mags though for my G17. I shot IDPA for the first time the week before and really liked that, but USPSA requires more mags it seems. So much more fun than just shooting paper!
