Yes, please let me know. I will confer with Bruce and Jones to make a determination. Please understand that the pre-requisite was put in place to guarantee that every participant is operating from the same foundation. Experience means little, in this training situation, if Bruce, Jones or Randy encourages a participant to address some point of their draw or to "prep the trigger" and they look at them like they are speaking a foreign language.

An understanding of the core principles and accompanying skills introduced through the Skill Builder and/or Practical Fundamentals are necessary for a course participant to more fully realize the new material as well as refinements being offered throughout the course. This applies to any of our intermediate or advanced courses, for that matter.

Allow me to be blunt and this is not up for negotiations.

To shed a little light on this. If you are returning as a GGI alumni, you are golden. If not, and you have received training from any of the modern competition based schools, or the likes of Kyle Lamb, Larry Vickers, Bill Rogers, or the like, you should be fine. An NRA home safety, or basic pistol type school doesn't. If you are taught by a range buddy that isn't Rob Leatham, or you are self-taught as an "instinctive" shooter, you won't make it.

This type class and the APOT classes are for experienced shooters. It ain't a marketing gimmic. It is an advanced class that a marginal shooter can't keep up with. It pushes a marginal shooter so far out of their comfort zone that it makes them unsafe.

If you have any questions regarding your skill level, you may contact me direct.

Are we talking about the same John K? That guy couldn’t hit a barn if he was inside it. We can’t use a regular timer with him either, we need to use a calendar because it doesn’t use batteries. Maybe it would work if we could rig it up with one of those deep cycle batteries.

A few people asked me some questions regarding equiptment, ammo and number of magazines needed etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Based on previous classes, I think most of us came with at least 5 magazines/gun especially if you're participating in the Sat and Sun classes......i really think more is better here. For those who are only taking the Friday class that might be hard to do.

I'm purchasing a few more magazines for both Linda and myself to speed up transitions and decrease time off the line. P7 mags are pretty expensive so that might limit us a bit.

In a similar fashion, its tough to predict how much ammo one will go through. I tended to shoot a little less than some others in the class.

A few of the participants shot every possible second they had, every possible scenario set up and even shot during our lunch break everyday.

That said I just purchased 2400 rounds of 9mm for Linda and myself to share ...figuring on 300/day/pp plus some extra just in case. I'm not sure i'll shoot all of it because my wrist probably won't take the abuse. The range has a pertty nice shop and hopefully by then their stores will be stocked again. Time will tell.

You will need a good holster and belt and magazine carriers as well as good shoes (we're outside on dirt), long pants and long sleeves, eye protection and ear protection and a hat (it can get pretty hot, and we shoot rain or shine).

Check out www.ggitraining.com I copied the following from there.
Equipment
1. Service pistol: all trigger types are welcomed…we recommend 9mm ammunition due to the economy involved, but other calibers are welcomed

2. Outside the Waistband holster – Kydex preferred…

•This is for uniformity/safety,(paddle or belt slide attachment allowed)
•Please inquire if you wish to use another style of holster.
•No radical cant, cross-draw or shoulder holsters

3. Ammunition –
• Factory loaded…may be commercial reloads - this is an insurance issue
• Approximately 350 rounds per day
• No hollow point or Magnum ammunition allowed
• This is a safety issue as we will often be shooting on steel
4. Plenty of spare magazines

5-8 is suggested…more is better

5. Extra magazine carriers…open topped prefered, may be polymer or leather

6. Wraparound eye protection

7. Hearing protection

Electronic hearing protectors are highly recommended

8. Cleaning and Maintenance supplies

Recommended:
Plenty of liquids
Snack foods

Clothing:
Shirt with high collar

Jeans or canvas type pants

Closed toe shoes

Sunscreen and Hat

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions etc.....please don't hesitate to communicate with Will and Bruce. They will be sending everyone registration forms.

Oh, Lordy.

It had to get out someday.

I never, ever should have told ANYONE I used to be a "physical performance artist."
In the 1970's. In San Francisco.

And I REALLY shouldn't have told Jones.

Yes, I was a mime.

There, I've said it.

Strange, I actually feel like my face is clean for the first time in 30 years. I always feared people could still see the white greasepaint, and judge me.

Jones, this sounds too tough for me. Do you think I'm up for this one?

Ah, hell, now that my shameful past is out, what do I have to lose? A little pride...Oh, wait, I'm teaching this one. Guess I'd best tune up a bit before October. Big Grin

THE PLAN:

In all seriousness, we have had strong requests to run a fun, truly advanced, high speed shooting course for our San Diego competition and sport shooting cadres. Some of you have not yet recieved the thrashing you wanted and expected from us, and we have heard you. You asked for it, my friends, and we will deliver.

In keeping with the Halloween season coinciding with our dates, I have set a chilling theme for this class: Overcoming your fear by pushing through your comfort zone into the cold, infinite blackness of the unknown. OK, maybe that's just my hangup, but everyone has something within that holds them back from shooting to their potential. Is it a fear of missing? Of looking like Gumby eating Pokey? Only you can know, but we will help you drive through it.

To that end, this class will be very fast-paced and much more intensely focused. We will offer degrees of target difficulty and course-of-fire challenges that will require you to drive your gun faster than you believe you can.

Expect to... prep the trigger and follow through...snap out with fast presentations to tough shots...drive very fast transitions...reload under time pressure...shift up and down between distant and close targets...shoot accurately from some really odd positions...run whole courses like a maniac on fire with your strong or support hand only...retrieve your pistol and mags from strange containers and surfaces...negotiate through doorways and around various typical obstacles found in USPSA matches...engage moving targets with limited exposures while moving yourself...all the while visualizing each string of fire or task before executing it in a disciplined, vivid and serial fashion, of course.

We plan to set up two or three independent speed-shoot type stages at a time and rotate everyone through them hot, in series. Each stage will be heavy on steel, and each stage will come wrapped in problematic object lessons that you'll have fun solving.

Your body will need to produce copious amounts of accuglandin to hit the targets, but you'll do fine. The greatest object lesson? No matter what the problem, fast or slow, near or far, the solution is always found in the fundamentals. You will be without fear of missing. Fear requires time, and you'll be too busy hitting stuff to think about missing.

Yes, Jones and Will are correct in their desire to make sure everyone is ready for this class. That means we all will be capable of safe gun handling at speed in an intense environment requiring a high level of mental focus and clear motivation. This is why we imposed a prerequisite.

Yes, we will take breaks to reload and regroup, but we WILL drive you to perform and excel beyond your percieved self-limitations. That's why we will require some of you to attend Friday's Practical Fundamentals Fast Fiesta Fandango to tune up, get your head into our safety and range procedures, and get behind your gun with safe, reliable gun handling skills.

I'll be back with more. Lets all thank Mayer for doing such a fantastic job of organizing this event for us. Thanks, man!

Howdy! Here's an update from GGI's secret Volcano Base:

I'd like to give you a better sense of what you can expect on Saturday and Sunday. Thank you.

Range / time management have not, historically, been my strongest suits. Roll Eyes With one single wide bay, the Project 2000 range venue poses a particular challenge to my casual sense of time, given my well-deserved reputation for holding up everyone on the line to provide individual instruction here and there.

I'm sure my mania for rendering personalized attention can and must coexist with efficency in a complex, monster round count environment of the sort we are planning for you. (Yes. Bring lots of ammo. More on that later...)

Thus, I've pledged myself to develop a new set of really efficient and creative range management procedures. What's the best way I can think of to do this? That's easy: I'll just rip off somebody else who does it better, and nobody handles a busy range better than my old friend and mentor Mike Dalton.

The key to running shooters through efficiently is found in the master coordination of multiple stages of equivalent scale and timing. We're going to run a three-ring circus, each with it's own instructor-safety officer, who will communicate with and be directed by the range master.

We're lining up enough steel targets and props to permit the simultaneous running of three independant training scenarios at a time for much of the course. Since they don't require resetting for each shooter, these all-steel speed stages will allow us to rotate through at a fast clip, giving everyone lots of repetitions and different looks at various problems & solutions. You might draw from the holster for the first run, pick the gun off the table and load it another time, and grab it from out of a briefcase the third time around, as you snake through each stage in conga line fashion.

For dang sure, you will become very comfortable shooting steel by the end of class!

We'll also run "paper" stages together to make the most efficient use of our time while shooting bobbers, turners and swingers. As these movers all require some reset and target taping time between runs, we will dream up some tricky (but fairly simple to set up) challenges that will allow you to focus on your "time and trap" technique with some exclusivity. We will ask your enthusiastic cooperation in forming press gangs to reset and tape between shooters and keep it flowing quickly. My goal would be about three simultaneous starts every 2 minutes or less, so everyone should get in at least five runs in each hour on these more complex scenarios.

Each morning and evening we'll begin and end on a set of basic drills to warm you up and reinforce the all-important fundamentals I'm always raving at everybody about. All together, I estimate we will fire somewhere between 400 and 500 rounds each day, with around 75% of that on scenarios.

As a favor to me, I'd ask you to please get signed up reasonably soon. Given this ambitious, hardware-driven course of instruction, DCM7, Jones, Randy and I need to know our hard numbers so we can fairly lock in our instructors and reserve the targets & props we'll need. Thank you for working with us on this!

More later, my friends.

-Bruce
