In October 2015, OpSpec Training held our first MOAC (Mother of all Classes) program at SIG SAUER Academy in New Hampshire, and it was a big success. A significant number of potential students asked us to hold our next class in the southwest or west coast, and we're excited to let you know we'll be holding our next MOAC program in Mesa, Arizona.

Update
  • As of Sept. 12, the class is now FULL, and the waitlist has been started. If you are interested in attending, we strongly suggest you get on the waitlist by registering online. If a slot opens, we will contact those who have registered for the waitlist in the order they signed up.
  • If you're wondering how good the class is, five of last year's students have elected to take the class again this December. We've added testimonials to the class announcement on our website.
  • We will not be doing a bulk order of ammo, as it will not save any money. You are welcome to drop-ship ammunition from your supplier to our host and he will store it for you prior to the class.

The class will be limited to a maximum of 16 students, shot all on steel, with an approximate 4,000 round count.

Prior to the start of class, students should have completed OpSpec Training’s Practical Fundamentals class or have attended an equivalent trigger control-based program from another training organization within the past 36 months. If you have the training experience, solid gun-handling skills, and can draw from the holster and reliably hit an 8-inch target from 5 yards in under 1.5 seconds you meet the prerequisites for this advanced program.

We're announcing this class 10 months in advance, so you've got plenty of time to prepare, plus we've set up an optional payment plan schedule.

MOAC
MOAC is a five-day, 40 hour, high round count pistol course designed to take the intermediate shooter and provide them with the tools to become an advanced or expert shooter. OpSpec Training alumni frequently request a long-duration program – building upon our flagship two-day Practical Fundamentals program – designed to enforce and develop persistent, durable skills. MOAC develops these skills through repetition and process oriented marksmanship.

Read everything you need to know about MOAC right here, and the details and information about the class in Mesa is posted here and we will update as we have more information. Interested in class testimonials from students? We also have them posted here, and many students will share their experiences with you if you ask. They will not share details about drills with you, but they will provide you with general info.

Instructors*: Jerry Jones, Bruce Gray

When: Dec. 5-9, 2016, 2015, eight hours each day. Exact times TBD.

Where:
Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club
3960 N Usery Pass Road
Mesa, Arizona
Map

Class size: Limited to 16 students.

Tuition: $995
A deposit of $245 holds your spot. Although the final balance is due Nov. 1, we prefer $250 payments on July 1, Sept. 1 and Nov. 1 and our website eCommerce system is set up to do this, but you'll have to make a note on your calendar to make the payments. (We will now send emails to enrolled students with reminders.)

Range Fees: $20 per day, to be paid in cash to the range on the first day of class.

Local Host: Alan Haynie (Forum member amhaynie)

Ammunition: Round count for MOAC will be approximately 4,000 rounds
Enrolled students will be able to ship or drop ship ammunition and gear to the host.
We strongly suggest shooting a compact (think P229) to full-sized (think P226), 9mm pistol during this class.

Important Links and Information

Along with reviewing our What to Bring page, note you'll also need at least six magazines, four magazine carriers and 50 dummy rounds. We suggest the Saf-T-Trainers from Brownells. Understand some of the dummy rounds will break during training.

Where to Stay
Country Inn & Suites by Carlson
6650 E. Superstition Springs
Mesa, Ariz. 85206
For reservations, call direct (480) 641-8000 and ensure you mention the discount code OPSPEC to receive the special group rate of $90 per night plus tax. Make your reservations prior to Nov. 14.

* Instructors listed for specific programs have committed to teach the class on those dates. Although we do not anticipate changes, travel delays, family emergencies or illness may result in instructor substitutions.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

A few observations from teaching this class, and having taken multiple high round count classes before-

I respect the guys that want to train with their .40 and .45 caliber duty or carry piece. However, in this class, I discourage it. The constant pounding at that high repetition becomes painful, particularly on the wrists and elbows. If you want to train with .40 or .45, have at it, but buyer beware and bring some ibuprofen.

The highest round count string is 72-75 rounds, and rears its ugly head on the second day. We recommend 6 magazines for the class, but you need however many mags will allow you to hit the magic number of 72 rounds. If you run dry before the end of the string, you can dry fire through the rest of it.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Not because the weather will be horrible, but we have found that you'll achieve peak performance if you are better hydrated. Eat snacks during breaks, this is the week that carbohydrates are good. You need the energy to keep you mentally sharp, as you start to become mentally fatigued.

Day one will be pretty radically different from most programs. The approach we take to hitting stuff in high speed marksmanship on day one sets the tone for the rest of the week. We'll hit the range that afternoon and it is on. It will click, and it is proven to work.

Each day we will have a drill that we will shoot six times for score. That drill will lead up to the object lesson for the day. You must pass the drill at least once. (you'll also shoot each drill once on Friday for a total of seven attempts)

Don't ask Alumni or staff for the drills. You won't get them. And there is no guarantee that the drills will be the same this year.

This class is my baby. It is the class I have always wanted to run. And I ended the class last October tired, but proud of all the guys that came through it and left with durable persistent skills.

As it has been said........MOAC is coming.

So maybe you're wondering a bit more about this class? One way I measure success when it comes to training is how many students elect to come back to an OpSpec Training class.

As you can figure, MOAC is not an inexpensive commitment when it comes to time and resources.

Four students (so far) who have registered for MOAC in Dec. 2016 were in our October 2015 program.

As an update, this class is almost certain to be a go. Seven or eight of the 16 available slots are filled with deposits received.

knock knock knock...

Yes?

Mr AMHAYNIE?

Yes, that's me

I'm special agent Smith and this is special agent Jones and we are here to talk to you about you receiving 64,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition. May we come in?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conversation at Mark_A's house:

Mark_A: Honey?

Mrs Mark_A: Yes?

Mark_A: I'm thinking of going to see your folks in Phoenix in December

Mrs Mark_A: Really, that's nice. I'm sure they would love to see you. How long will you be there? Do you have a business conference out there?

Mark_A: No business and I will be out there for a week

Mrs Mark_A: A week? you've never visited them for a week before

Mark_A: Well, it's been a long time since I've seen them.

Mrs Mark_A: well, I'm sure they will be happy to see you...

(a few minutes pause)

Mark_A: Honey?

Mrs Mark_A: Yes?

Mark_A: Do you think it would hurt your dads back if I shipped 4,000 rounds of 9mm to his house?

Mrs Mark_A: (arms crossed, toe tap tap tapping...)

I'm telling you, I've given thought to creating a bulk order 64,000 rounds or so of 9mm and having the entire pallet shipped to Mesa if we could get everyone to agree and get a good price...

Gosh, if I lived out there I would WANT to have the order come to my house.

(AMAHYNIE talking to his friends) What? you DON"T order 64,000 rounds at a time?

I will decide this weekend if I'm going to go or not. if I do I would be in on the bulk order if it comes together.

Mark

I'm in. I prefer 124 grain and will usually run that if given a choice, but I'll go with whatever you come up with Steve, assuming it isn't steel cased or bimetallic jacket material (not that you'd be looking for that stuff anyway...). Smile
