Is the Gray Guns Competition Short Reset package eligible for USPSA Production class? I plan to start with one of my 228 in that class but I am also waiting on a RTT 226 and with the Gray Guns package and wanted to be sure before I send it in.

A very related question ... I am new to IPSC / USPSA.

What if GGI takes a P220R Carry and shines up the sides of the trigger (glossy like a mirror), then shaves a little off the front of the trigger to make an intermediate trigger (starting from a stock trigger) and refinishes it so almost nobody would notice this mod, then slaps on a set of stock SIG SAUER grips that HOGUE did their re-checker mod to for good grip?

I have this gun, and wonder if it's a PRODUCTION division gun with these externally visible changes. I would use 8 round mags, to fit in the box. Oh, almost forgot a hard to notice change, it has a shorter than stock slide release 'tab', the little bit of metal is about half the normal length. And this has a short reset trigger (internal so that mod is fine). GGI (Torie and Scott) did some great work on this gun.

I figure I may be able to shoot this gun in LIMITED 10, with some SIG 10 round mags. Or would this gun not qualify for that division?

bn307,
Your P220 is completely legal for Limited 10.

As for Production. The trigger modification probably isn't legal in the strictest of definitions, but I doubt anyone will ever notice and question you. The grip modifications are perfectly legal. The slide catch lever modification is probably the most noticeable modification. For local matches, you'll probably be ok shooting in Production as long as you don't draw attention to it. I probably wouldn't go to a major match with that modification.

I don't understand the slide catch lever modification. It seems really unnecessary to me, because all you need to do is train yourself to position your right thumb a little bit further onto your support hand.

I forgot to mention the hammer being shiny on the sides, bright like a mirror. Not sure if this is some stock SIG part or a part Grayguns tuned.

The slide lock tab being short was part of the gunsmithing Grayguns did to this pistol. I did not specifically ask for it. I have had a little time using it and it certainly does not hamper my gun manipulation. OK, maybe because it excludes the gun from PRODUCTION it is not a mod for everyone. But hey, I like the 10 round mags with sleeves, plenty of room for my pinky finger to hold on, so LIMITED 10 may be a fun use for this gun. And concealed carry with 8 round mags is fine too.

I have a P226ST that Grayguns built up for me a few years ago. The hammer looks like the one you pictured. I've never had a problem with it at any of the local matches. If you're really concerned about it, send it back to Grayguns and have them reblue it for Production Division.

Grayguns did work on two of my P220 Carry guns. One gun has less work, so the slide lock tab is normal but hammer is shiny. I will ask the local match organizers if they are cool with me using that gun in PRODUCTION and my other P220 Carry - with small slide lock tab and more internal work done - I will use in LIMITED 10. I don't fault Grayguns, since I did not specifically tell them to keep the guns stock looking. Thanks for the advice, and I hope this thread drift was cool with the originator, Rayden.

I just read through the USPSA rule book, specifically looking at Production Division. It says that you can swap out small parts and specifically mentions the slide stop. I think the intent of the rule is to allow for larger slide stops, think Glock. So my interpretation would be that a smaller slide stop should be good to go.

Thanks for checking, I guess that leaves the trigger being re-ground to an in-between size (bigger than 'short' and smaller than 'full-size') as the standout item on these guns. I don't think a special trigger shape gives me an unfair advantage in recoil management, so it likely meets the spirit of the PRODUCTION rules. And I think SIG has produced a variety of trigger shapes and sizes for the P220 thru the 30+ years of production, that may count in my favor. Will see what the local club says about it. Too bad T.S. FAY is heading this way, likely to cancel the weekend USPSA match.

I wouldn't worry about the trigger or ask around about it. So long as it has been re-blued you'll be good to go. No one will give it a second look.
