Super nice guy. It was fun getting to watch him shoot this past weekend.

Yes, he is a super nice guy.

What was he shooting? Any pictures?

How did you do at Area 4?

Some kind of STI framed open gun. He was not shooting production, although they did still give away a USPSA model 226 to the ROs.

As an RO, I was on the losing side this time. We shot 2 days early which was in the middle of a rain storm. Horrible mud and footing conditions - great hits, but impossible to go anywhere fast. It killed the HF for our squads. All the sand packed and dried out by the time the Sat/Sun shooters came through. A significant advantage for foot speed then. Shooters that I'm normally competitive were running several seconds faster per stage than me on Sat/Sun. No matter, I've been on the other side of that as well. Still a super match with great people. Always great to see your match friends.

Also, we used an all electronic Palm Pilot scoring system and there was no paper (except for the score receipts that the shooters got immediately). Everything was uploaded in real time and they had laptops and a flatscreen by the stat shack continuously updating a leader board. It was really pretty slick.

Lots of big names. Max Michel Jr., Dave Sevigney, Chris Tilley, Matt Mink, Phil Strader, etc.

Here's what our footing looked like: (stolen from B. Enos)

I guess Max and Sig couldn't get the X-Five Open gun to run reliably enough. Disappointing.

Yong Lee is a friend of mine and he posted on his Facebook page on Friday night after shooting that day about the horrendous shooting conditions.

That makes two bad weather major matches in one year at the same range. DTC is a match I'd like to shoot some year, but the sketchy weather is a deterrant for me.

I was at DTC during the blizzard this past year. Cool Freezing while shooting and sunburned the next day. N. TX weather in teh early spring and fall is best described as schizophrenic. If you don't like it, wait 10 minutes.

If it would make the risk any more tolerable, I live less than 2 hours from the range and less than 30 minutes from the DFW Airport. My guest room is always available for fellow competitors. Might even save you a night or two of hotel. I know the food and beer are good. Wink

What stage did you RO on? I was one of the many Rudy Project guys who shot the match.

I shot on Friday and it sucked a "big one" too. I was really prepared for this match but was unable to deliver because of the footing.

As you said, it was still a lot of fun and I plan on attempting the DTC next year.

Stage 7 - "Red Cell Fever". If you would, shoot me an email sometime. The Rudy guys are always so nice, I'd be interested in learning how the sponsor/team thing works. I assume you know Kale?

Nothing to be sorry about. It was a great time even with the conditions.

Yes. The 2009 team was decided upon a few months ago. USPSA Nationals was the point the team members got their team shirts. No official announcement of who the actual team members are. At least not that I've seen.

Thanks for the links! I got the chance to talk with Max on the phone a few years ago when he was still shooting for the Army. He was a hell of a nice guy, I wish him the best of luck.
