One of the our pals here on the Sig Forum has introduced me to IPSC. Thanks Nick! Now I've got to decide what I'm going to shoot. I own a P226 in 9mm as well as a few .45 1911's. I don't have any holsters, mag pouches, etc. for this kind of competition, so I'm starting from scratch as far as those necessities go. My question is, am I better off gearing up to use my 226, or a 1911, assuming I shoot both the same? Thanks.

If it's got t*ts or a motor, it's bound to give you problems.

Personal preference. Shoot whichever one you enjoy shooting the most. I'd try both and few times before I decided. It will probably be easier to borrow 1911 stuff.

I prefer SS and the .45. At least you can score major that way. You will need to get very good at reloading. Either way, you're going to spend a lot of time doing it.

Ammo for your P226 is alot cheaper than for your 1911s. The answer really should be decided by you and what your personal preference is. Your two pistols are about as different as you can get.

I agree with HuskySig. Shooting Production with the P226 will be more affordable in the long run; however, this is a decision that you'll have to make.

Comp-Tac makes some decent stuff and I'm really drawn to their "Belt Fed" mag carrier that will hold four magazines. If memory serves me correctly, the price is $110. As for holsters, Blade-Tech Stingrays and the Comp-Tac OWB holster are quite nice and will suffice your needs.

Best of luck and glad you like competitive shooting.

Thanks for the insight guys. Nick is using the
Blade-Tech Stingray for his 226 and seems to like it. I'll check out the Comp-Tac gear. I guess I'll go with the 226 so I can shoot more. Where would you suggest I pick these parts up? Thanks again.

As far as the belt-fed mag pouch goes, there's a good discussion on Brian Enos here.

Current Sig-ventory:

Thanks 1911onr, good link there. I have seen those belt fed jobbies, but for 120.00, they can keep them. At least until I'm really into this, and can justify the expense. I need an entire rig, sands belt.
