Our first super-weekend of 2018 at SIG Sauer Academy in Epping, New Hampshire includes two classes. You can enroll in one or both at the Academy website.

Practical Fundamentals, June 21 & 22, 2018

Practical Fundamentals is OpSpec Training’s flagship two-day course. Using a building-block approach, the program focuses on the process of running the gun. With dry and live fire exercises, you’ll focus on marksmanship fundamentals - primarily on trigger control - to help you make fast hits on small targets, on demand.

The class fee is $450, there are no range fees, and tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection. This is an outdoor class and frangible ammo is not required.

Instructor: Bruce Gray*

For complete details on the above class, click here.

Register for the class at the Academy website.

Advanced Pistol Marksmanship, June 23, 2018

Advanced Pistol Marksmanship places a heavy emphasis on process oriented technical marksmanship to solve various marksmanship challenges. The goal of this course is to take the shooter through a series of logically organized problems, and equip the shooter with the ability to solve them. This is a one-day program.

The class fee is $225, there are no range fees, and tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection. This is an outdoor class and frangible ammo is not required.

Instructor: Bruce Gray*

For complete details on the above class, click here.

Register for the class at the Academy website.

* Instructors listed for specific programs have committed to teach the class on those dates. Although we do not anticipate changes, travel delays, family emergencies or illness may result in instructor substitutions.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

For those of you who are new to the Sig Academy and OPSEC's excellent pistol classes here are some helpful hints I've gleaned from having attended Bruce & Jerry's courses in Epping, NH:

1. The hotels book early in New Hampshire during the warm weather months. We're less than 4 months out from our class dates so you should book now. Any of the three hotels recommended by Sig (see the Sig Academy website for the list) offer the "SIG CORPORATE RATE" which typically works out to $103/night once the hotel tax is added onto your bill. BE SURE TO ASK FOR THE SIG CORPORATE RATE.
2. If you're bringing your family along to enjoy all that New Hampshire offers, I'd recommend booking a hotel in either downtown Portsmouth or trying the Marriott Wentworth by the Sea which is on the coast, only a half mile walk from the beach, has a swimming pool for the kids and a day spa for your spouse. The local Exeter hotels don't offer nearly as much in the way of family entertainment options.
3. For those of you driving up it's helpful to those students flying in from the West Coast and other countries if you'd bring along an extra folding chair and a large cooler to share with with our fly-in students.
4. If you're bringing your own pistol, 5 magazines is a good minimum. If you're bringing a 1911 then bring 7 magazines. Yes, you can get by with 3 magazines but you might run short on some of the drills or find yourself scrambling to reload from your pockets while on the range. An Upula mag loader is very helpful.
5. The outdoor ranges get full sun in the afternoon so good sunglasses, ball cap, sun screen and insect repellent are a must. Some of the folks like to bring along some gatorade or other sports drinks, and find switching between ice water and a sports drink during the day keeps them hydrated.
6. NOTEBOOK: Bruce & Jerry cover a lot of material and explain it well with charts and diagrams you'll want to record on paper and take home with you. This will be my fourth year in a row attending this particular course and I know I'll come away with several more pages of extensive notes. A small notebook that fits into your pocket will be very helpful to record all of the techniques and drills they'll be demonstrating. This is very much a "thinking person's course."
7. Reasons why I keep attending this course (this will be my 4th year in a row) are: 1) I learn more about the physical and mental aspects of the trigger press from these guys than anyone else; 2) When I'm missing all I have to do is go through their process using the pyramid of importance they provide in class and self-diagnose my problem; 3) each time I attend their class I find it takes my ability up to another level from where I was before; 4) I now know to stay behind my gun and operate the system vs. looking at my target to see what the results are (which leads to me missing). Whenever I get out in front of my gun, problems arise. Just learning that made a big difference in my shooting.

Looking forward to this year's class and meeting everyone!

Steve,

Would you mind if we hold a Practical Fundamentals class dinner right after class ends on our first day of shooting? I'd reserve a table at Telly's for 5:15 pm, Thursday, 21 June. If it's like past years about half the students are Sig Academy
regulars who've taken your course at least once already while the other half are new to OPSEC's training classes.

I remember one OPSEC class dinner about 3 years ago at Telly where Jerry Jones sat at the head of the table and discussed trigger prep quite a bit (at least 1 1/2 hours) with my classmates. I only heard about it afterwards because I was sitting in the middle of the table across from Bruce Gray and we ended up talking about everything from how the P320 trigger was designed to shooting Bianchi Cup to all manner of non-shooting topics. You guys offer a great instructor-student ratio with lots of one-on-one teaching which I appreciate but those after class dinners are great learning experiences too. My all time favorite after-class dinner is still the one with Team Sig two years ago. Getting to meet all of those exceptional young shooters after they joined our class and shot some late afternoon drills side by side with us is something I'll never forget. It's all the extra stuff that OPSEC does for us students that separates you from other course providers.

P.S. I'm pretty sure I'm signed up already.

Thank you,

H-Man

This is fine to set up in advance if you'd like. That said, we can not ensure the class instructors - including Bruce - would be available for dinner.

It's generally not an issue, but when teaching at or near the mothership, there are times when OST instructors may need to have after-hours meetings with folks.

5:15 may be a bit early since folks like to hang out at the Pro Shop after class and although class "ends" at 5 p.m., we end up hanging out a bit longer. We rarely leave the property before 6 p.m.

Also, PLEASE spread the word about this opportunity for training. We're looking for more students to enroll!

This class is a definite go, but we may need to limit enrollment. If you're still interested, we'd suggest you'd get online and register soon!
