Hiya!

My old friend Cooper (Pvt.Dick)from Jacksonville came up with dates and a venue for the 1911 Armorer / Operator course we've been working on for a while now. A number of our Sigforum friends have asked about this course, so here it is. This is from Cooper's earlier post on the Training and Competitions page:

(Pvt.Dick)Posted July 14, 2008 10:03 PM:

How'd this come about?

I started building 1911's in the mid-70's and this platform remains my first, greatest love. We found my old course materials from way back in 1987-88 when I was an adjunct pistolsmithing instructor at Rochester Institute of Technology, and that got me thinking. Between that and reading all the threads on 1911's here on the Forum lately, I've become wildly excited at the prospect of teaching the 1911 again.

In reading through Cooper's post, there's a few things that pop into mind.

I'd prefer to limit this class to fewer than the maximum 20 students we normally have set as our drop-dead maximum for some of our other courses. Given the nature of this course, I think 10 minimum - 16 tops will guarantee the level of individual instruction and focus the material demands.

To that end, I'm inclined to put as much time into the technical / armorer content as y'all can stand. We don't even have to shoot much if you'd rather stay on task with trigger tuning and extrator fits the whole time. Be ready for long days and evening sessions in any event!

We will cover the run of tweaks, tricks (there aren't any) and tunes from the most crucial on down. My objective for this class is that you will come with a (stock) 1911 and leave with a gun that functions, and the how-to-and-why knowledge to do it again.

I'd like to hear from y'all as to what you'd like us to cover, and any suggestions you have to make this new course a huge success.

Cooper will come on here soon with details about the range and class venue, the outstanding local accommodations and other details. Tell your freinds we're coming to St. Augustine!

if i could borrow a video camera and lights for the weekend, i'd come down and film this for the DVD...alas it's not to be.

you'll just have to do it all again here in Sacto. hmm, i wonder if there's enough demand in the area for this to fly on the West Coast?
