My edc is a 669. I bought a slide and barrel of EBAY from a 6906 and put that slide on my frame. It gives me the Novak style sights. The slide and barrel were cheaper than having the sights installed.

Beautiful 3rd generation Smith, OP. I tend towards the larger caliber, but the 5906 is probably close to the pinnacle.

My favorite of them is the slender 3913. I had a Ladysmith version and really hated to have to get rid of it. (Don't ask.) I'd like to see a 3904 to try. 59 and 69 series, which I have also owned, are just slightly too fat for my hand.

Apply a little Mother's Mag polish and be amazed.
Owned a few and all were fine pistols.

I too prefer the single stack versions and that’s all I kept. The 3906 might be my favorite. I had a 3913 but sold it and kept the 3953. I preferred the constant DAO trigger pull to the DA/SA of the 3913. Some of the 3rd Gen DAO triggers are decent because they sit at a half-cock position, though they do not have a second pull capabilities if the slide fails to cycle. DAO models with a D at the end like my CS9D & 457D are true DAO and retain second strike capability. I sent the CS9D to S&W for a trigger job though due to the stout pull.

I envy you fellows with the 457D pistols. I've yet to see one in person.

I carry a standard 457 regularly. Great pistol.

Rumor on the Smith board is a large order of 457D guns was for the Chicago PD. Dunno if its true. Regards 18DAI

Very nice. The 659 was my first semi-auto pistol. Unfortunately I sold it for a 92F because that was my issue pistol in the AF.

I stumbled upon that at a local shop in Virginia. I think I paid $275 or $300 for it. I didn't really know what it was but saw the stuff on S&W Forum about it. I considered selling it because I'm more of a 9mm guy but I like it. Actually, I had it on consignment at a shop in Colorado Springs for months and eventually pulled it. No interest. My 5946s sold though. It's a nice shooter, pretty low recoil.

It's true. I don't know exactly how many were made but Smith made a ton of them for us. A lot of us carried it back in the day when we were only allowed to carry DAO semi's. Excellent gun.

Thank you Bulldog!! Interesting, to me. There are quite a few agencies that used 457s. They are VERY underated 45s. Regards 18DAI

Have a 5906 that I will never part ways with. Made the mistake of trading away a 4566 several years ago and have regretted it ever since.

Had quite a few of these and the older gens pass through my hand, all were good shooters and ate whatever I shoved in the mag.
All I have left now is a second gen 645, third gen 5906, 5946, and a rather rare 4046 which is what I currently carry.
You have an excellent weapon capable of doing whatever you need a semi-auto to do, enjoy it and shoot it.
I'm looking for another 39-2 or 439 myself.

I picked on of those (5906) couple months ago. Kept looking online and was about to order one. Walked In a LGS and saw one on consignment for $550. Out the door for $425 with two mags. This one is in great condition. Has the curved backstrap. I love the old smiths. Did the ever make a 1911 in 9mm back then?
