I first saw this question decades ago, and my answer then as it would be today is precisely the same: 4" model 66.

Then again, even at this stage of my life I could reasonably anticipate needing a handgun for something besides routine concealed carry and fighting off the Russian paratroopers.

I think a Walther P99 would do it.

G19. Very closely followed by my 229. Either. It really doesn't matter.

The Goldilocks Glock, G19. Big enough for a combat pistol, small enough to concealed carry.

I'm not going to put too much time into thinking about this because I'm simply limited to ONE handgun. I would just go with the one I CCW the most and that is a Sig P239 in .40

Here are a few reasons why I'll stick with the Sig P239 in .40:

- During the ammo shortage, .40 cal ammo was readily available for me
- Local Police carry .40's
- You never mentioned "carbine" or "rifle" so......I do have a .40 caliber carbine.

If I had to be limited to one handgun, I'd use it to fight my way to the person limiting me to one handgun.

I appreciate the idea of these threads, but they are like the town bicycle.

I'm a bit big, even for your average Irish troll, as a result a bigger pistol fits me better, so the Sig P226 for me is *it*. Personally, I believe the P226 is the finest fighting handgun (and system) on Earth. I won't get into the hammer fire vs striker fire argument, but I clearly and unreservedly fall on the side of the debate that favors a hammer.

I've got a few P226's in 9mm, still have an original West German P226 I bought in 1989...great, great gun. But if I had to pick only one? Well, I've already got it. I carried it at work from 1998 to 2005 and it's chambered in .357 Sig. Simply superb firearm chambered in an outstanding caliber.

Without a doubt, my 'Last Stand' gun...

Yup. Definitely 357 Sig.

P-226

But I don't like limitations so there will be a P229 close by. 357 Sig also obviously.

And a rifle around the corner.

S&W 4566. Carried one for years on the job. Perfect size, for a "do everything gun".

Only one gun? Yea, 4566 for me. Regards 18DAI

A custom job, five shot, 5 1/4" Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt. I'd have to give up USPSA and the like, but I could do everything else.
