Hmmm...without access to old magazines or catalogs, it might be hard to pin down. I'd say around the $600-700 range.

Here's a link with HK price lists from '85, '91 and '92.
https://www.thefirearmblog.com...ists-1985-1991-1992/

Note the P7 PSP was $1000 in 1991. Also advertised as the most expensive production pistol. Figure a P226/8 would be a few hundred less.

Here's a 1985 ad that shows a P226 for what looks like $645.
https://m.ebay.com/itm/1985-SI...7:g:jJwAAOSwOy1aqK-C

And the P229 my dad gave me has the receipt in the box from 1998, which was $685 (plus tax).

And MSRP wasn't advertised like now. It was always "check with your local dealer for pricing"

All I remember is that the gun store I shopped at had all the guns I couldn't afford in the "not Fred" case.

I bought a Sig P228 K-Kote in 1992, and paid over $800 for it. I know the K-Kote was an up charge and I probably didn’t get a great deal but German currency was also strong.

I bought three (P220, P239 and P228, in that order) in the 1996-97 time frame, in the mid seven range.

I bought KF P220 and P230SL in 1996 for just over $1100 total for both, if I recall correctly. The P220 was $650 and the P230 $400, plus taxes. The P220 had a slight blem on the frame so I think it was discounted.

I used to have the oringal receipt for them, but it got lost in a move years ago.

The sporting goods store I worked at in high school had a 226 9mm sitting on the shelf for years at $729. I started working there in early '97.

I don't recall Sig prices in the early '90's (other than out-of-my-reach), but when I got stationed in Germany in'97 -'01, I bought my P239/9 for $425 from the Kaiserslautern Rod & Gun Club, and that started me down the Sig path. I later also purchased a P232SL for $350, P229TT/.40 for $670, and a P220/.45 for $573. This was prior to the Euro conversion, and the DM/USD exchange rate was about 2:1. These were all new, German-proofed, and no tax. Wish I could have bought more Sigs! (I also bought an HK USP-C/.40 and a Glock 23 (Gen 3), for $575 and $545, respectively.)

All prices are USD.

I bought my first Sig on my 21st birthday in 1998. I paid $549 plus tax for a P220. The last new Sig that I have bought that was anything near that price was a 2022.... For 499.

By the way when I bought my 220, the 220,226,228 and 245 were all the same price.

1995 I paid $485 for a gently used 220 in .45. One year later I paid $600.00 for a 228. Both have been a bargain. VI
