LEOs - What caliber does your agency issue
Large state agency with over 7K uniform LEO’s. .40, regardless of facts the reason I’m told we are staying with it is “Knock down power”.

You're expecting some agencies to still be issuing .38 Special revolvers, in this day and age? Sure, there might be a few agencies issuing J-frames as backups or for deep concealment purposes, but that wouldn't be their primary duty caliber.

Many corrections agencies are still issuing .38 special 6 shooters for their officers when they have gun duties. STILL. Georgia Dept of Corrections did until a few of their officers got killed a few years ago, then they transitioned to 9MM Glocks I believe.

Awesome! My 'burb neighbors yours, and am always happy to see your folks carrying the .357 sig. (non-leo here.)

We are mid switch to 9mm. It's going well so far as quals are concerned. Even our folks who normally need work are turning in solid high scores.

Non Leo here ECSO uses G22 with 180 gr. Gold Dot.

For clarification, if your not a cop, but your name is Leo, should you answer?

Current issue is 9mm, but many folks still carry .40 S&W.

Very small group carry 45 Auto.

(Years ago...when we transitioned from 9mm to 40 S&W...it took several years to purge the 9mm's out of service.)

Link to an interesting article (Dated 12/2017) by Mas Ayoob. Almost no 9mm in State agencies.

9mm we all just switched over from .40 at the end of last year.
I still dislike the Glock but dislike the Glock 19 far less than I loathe the 22.

Whoever voted 45 GAP are you at an agency in Virginia??

On paper the 9mm looks better.... but I shoot my .40 p226 better than my 9mm p226.

I wish we had options, because although I like what we have, not everyone does.

Why would you prohibit rails? I'd think the ability to mount a light would be a great asset.

They say that less-than-professional officers will be searching cars and houses with their gun light instead of a separate flashlight. I wouldnt doubt it if that did happen, but my response was that it is the supervisors responsibility to correct such issues. Its still a no-go.

On the mean time we will use decades old tactics and ignore modern weapon technology to protect the less-than-professional officers from themselves.

Do we...do we work in the same agency? Big Grin

Are you guys allowed to apply quality grip enhancement like talon grips? The sandpaper grip has made my 19 a much better shooter.

We are but is a grip angle thing for me not the grippiness.
We switched to Gen4s when we went to the 9mm and the beaver tail backstrap helps substantially but still not a fan.

No expectation that we will change from the glock 23's they we carry. Still one or two 9mm S&W 3rd. Gens around but they won't be there in a few years.

See if you can get permission to use a Grip Force beavertail adapter. It installs similarly to the factory backstraps, but only covers the top half of the grip. The result is a more vertical grip angle, plus all the benefits of a beavertail.

It improves my shooting. I now have them on all eight of my Glocks.

Even though it's aftermarket, I was able to plead my case and get permission to put one on my duty gun after we switched to Gen 4s, since the material, general function, and install were all equivalent to the factory interchangeable backstraps.

I am surprised to see that so many agencies are staying with .40, kudos to them for not just following fads.

Personally, I am quite comfortable with 9mm for civilian self defense.

Gotcha. I cut the bottom half of the beaver tail off and kind of ended up with an improved angle of the backstrap, kinda reducing the hump.

I gotta be honest, I kept monkeying with the G19 till it suited me. Now it's my favorite.

There is a method for reducing the ~22 degree Glock grip angle. Not sure if it would be approved for use, but it is permanent and there are no parts to come loose:
