I have a kit of Sentry solutions dryfilm lube for a few years now. I used it off and on due to one reason or another. Does anyone here use dryfilm regularly and how you like it compare it wet lube. Also, anyone use tuffcloth here? How you rate it for exterior protection against humidity, rust and so on and so forth.

I am contemplating on using it on a 245 for ccw and I think drylube can help lessen lint balls and general craps gather while ccw the piece.

hey good questiong about the dryfilm lube.. i use that on my knives, and i love it.
and i would also like to hear feedback on the dryfilm ,(tuffglide)
but for the tuffcloth.. i wouldnt use it. i dont like it on my knives, and i wouldnt like it on my sigs, it actually leaves a protective coating on the metal, and once its on .you are not getting it off ,it will look like a clear coat has been spray painted on, and then pealed away over time. so the only way to get it looking better is to appply more tuffcloth.

anyone else use sentry solutions or any of there products on sigs ?

I use Tuff Cloth on the exterior of my stainless guns now and then. No problems with it at all.

PittWM is a friend of mine and he owns a highly sucessful Chinese resteraunt. Lo Mein is one of the dishes they prepare at his resteraunt. I eat there a couple of times per week, and we get to shoot together every so often.

I think using Dry type lube is not a good idea off of a carry piece. Reasoning is that one, lube is like the oil in your car, it helps the engine run proper. It needs to be changed every so often. Secondly,I don't think dry lube does as good of a job as other alternatives. Plus, you need more than one lube to properly service a pistol. Heavier grease on the locking block, slide rails, etc, and lighter oil in other places. On range guns, or duty guns when I go to courses, I use slide glide in as many places as I can in place of oil.

Just my thoughts on dry lube, and lube in general. Jones

I use the smooth-kote on my barrels, inside and out, and coat the inside of the slide with it also. Seems to really make cleaning up the gun easier. I have also used the smooth coat on the rails for my carry P245 with no problems. On my range gun I still run some lube/grease on the rails since I'm shooting a lot.

I have also coated the inside of all my magazines with the Sentry Solutions smooth-kote.

And I use it on almost everythings else in the house - fishing gear, underneath scope bases before putting them on the gun, basically anywhere I want an additional layer of protection.

I use a dry lube on my mags, e. g., Mag Slick. It repels dirt and grit somewhat. No, I would not use it on my pistols. A quality wet lube and grease are my choices. I might re-think it if I used a pistol in a dusty environment.

You brought up something I have in mind about cleaning up. Since smooth kote leaves that grey black finish how do you tell whether something is dirty or not? Do you completely clean the frame , slide and barrel and reapply? If so, it really defeats the advertised benefits of non sticking property of the drylube if I have to strip completely.

I don't know, the frame to slide and to barrel seem slicker, but is the lube engineered to be able to withstand the velocity of the slide to the frame rails, and firing of the projectile down the tube?

jljones, lol, thats a good inside joke makes more sense now. but yes i agree with you, i have not tried the sentry solutions stuff on firearms, however it is great on knives. and i find sigs need alot of oil/lube/grease compared to other types.

i would like to try this "slide glide" can anyone point me in the direction on where to look for this stuff?

thanks again

I use Slide Glide on the rails and CLP on the other surfaces, this combo just works.

As I have posted before.
My gun came with a packet of TW25B, so this is my slide and external barrel goo.

Light application of CLP, then Silicon Cloth and then dry patch.

I would like to see a gun maintained with dry films.

Hey Bruce, how've you been?!?!...

I have been sick, injured, fallen off the ladder, so on and so forth this year. I heard this year is bad for people borned in the years of the horse, according to the many well known Chinese fortune tellers overseas. I now believe it.

So how's business there and what's your take on a 220 carry dak, it said to me lastnite it needs a massage from Bruce.

The smooth-kote leaves they greyish color. When I clean using cleaning solution, the greyish color comes up and I recoat after the gun is clean. Try it sometime under your slide and shoot a bunch. First clean with a brush and then finish the cleaning with cleaning solution. The dirt does not stick as it would without the smooth-kote. Try it sometime.

Actually I got started on this product first as a barrel coating, after every cleaning I run the smoooth-kote down the barrel and let dry, then I just started to get carried away and now coat everything that you do not see unless the gun is taken apart.

I tried the Sentry products and just don't think they work very well.

I do like Prolix. It cleans and leaves a dry-to-touch film of lube. It works well.

I've been running some guns with Militec-1 and WeaponShield on a dry-to-touch application. Those work well too.
