You'd have to be pretty crazy (or loaded) to want repeat performances at $5/round!

I've always wanted one, but the funds are usually directed elsewhere.

If I got one, It would have to be the 50!

Those prices are just too ridiculous i dont see the appeal. It might be a nice show off piece but I rather buy a 100 rounds of 9mm to shoot then 4 rounds of 50 cal

I don't have one and don't want one, but I've got several friends who have owned them...for a short time. What they said was after the thrill and range hard-on was gone, it just wasn't much fun to shoot, which is the same thing my local dealer says about them. I get a kick out of people shooting them at the range. It's like a bling-thing. Fire and then look to see who's watching. Fire and look, fire and look.

If you really want to wake up an indoor range with a handgun try a 500 S&W... It will get you noticed if that's what you are into.... Roll Eyes

I love my .44 DE, I've had it for 4-5 years now I believe. It doesn't get out every range visit but it's one of those special occasion guns that I enjoy, even if it's shooting by myself. Ironically, that's when I bring it out the most - I find it relaxing to pop clays at 50 and 100m even if it is at 44 mag prices.

I expect those who keep and love their 50s are out there too.

Some people like their big bore handguns. Everyone I've ever known to shoot a DE .50 has commented on their inaccuracy, and these guys are /good/ shots. From everything else I've gathered, the Baby Eagles and .44s are just fine.

As stated before, if you want the big bang, go for the S&W 500.

Would be about the worst handgun investment ever made.

Save up a few more hundred and go X5 or Custom 1911.

I had a Wieldy .45 Win Mag and reloaded exclusively for it so I could shoot for .10 a round instead of the .50.

The DE .50 will be much cheaper if you run hand loads in it and perform the same, if not better.

As soon as I get my settlement from the wreck, a DE in .44 is gonna get a new home.

I have one in 44 mag and it's a lot of fun to take to the range and shoot sometimes. You can tell it has a lot of recoil, you just don't "feel" it. I'm sure the .50 is even funner, but I'll stick with my .44 for now.

I don't see the appeal of Hummer SUV's or DE .50s. YMMV.

I am reminded of a scene at a gun shop many moons ago. A homey comes in and wants to take a look at a .50. He handles it, checks it out, and then proceeds to stick it in the waistband of his track suit. Never seen somebody "pants" themselves in public. We all tried not to laugh. Only a few failed.

Wow, lots of opinions here from guys who have no experience with them. I own one in .50 AE, and have shot it a lot. I also own 2 in .44 mag.

First of all, These guns are extremely well-made, although they can be temperamental until broken in. I only had FTF problems with one of my 3, and they warrantied it.

There is simply nothing like them on the planet. The .50 needs Hogue finger-groove grips, and Mag na porting. After that, it's very controllable (mine is the 6" version).

As to accuracy (addressed above), all 3 of mine (yes, including the .50) are EXTREMELY accurate handguns - substantially more accurate than most revolvers I've ever owned, in fact. Install the Millett adjustable sights, so that you can regulate the pistol.

Actually, DE's are known for their outstanding accuracy. I'm curious as to how many people the guy above has "known" to shoot a .50 DE, and whether those people shot 3 rounds at the range, or owned one and shot it often?

I think that a DE .50 belongs in EVERY big bore afficionado's collection. They kick a bit, but if you'll do the three things mentioned above to it, you'll find the effort worthwhile. It's a serious "grin producer"!

Oh, I also had my 3 finished in NP3 by Robar. This makes them smooth, and very easily cleaned up. Go for it!

My FFL sells them....over and over and over. They sell it, and it comes back, sell it again and it comes back and so it goes.

I really can't thing of any reason to own one especially at that price.

I'd say you hang out at the wrong range. I try to shoot my DE's, Sig's, and everything else when I have the range to myself. And, when there IS someone else there, I honestly couldn't tell you WHAT they're shooting. Try focusing on your front sight, rather than the guy down the line, maybe?

Interesting thread. If you'll notice, those who own 'em like 'em. And those who don't like 'em heard from a friend's uncle, who knew an FFL holder once, who heard that they were no good . . . from a friend's buddy. I think.

Hmmmmmmm. Maybe there's a lesson here?

I see no practical use for those boat anchors. I don't understand the appeal. My feeling is that the more inexperienced shooters among us are attracted to these monstrosities, because of the novelty and because of all the exposure in TV and movies.
Anyone who wants to own one, more power to ya, but I put Desert Eagles in the same category as Tech 9s and stuff like that- appealing only to the uninformed and inexperienced.

Present company excepted, of course. Roll Eyes

I shot one a few weeks ago in .50cal.

Huge bang and huge fire ball. I have to admit it was kinda cool. Shook the whole range when you fired it. Nothing practical about, but has a certain novelty factor to it.
