Looks like I'll clean it again tonight and visit the gun shop again tomorrow. Bummer.

That's two new Rugers I've had trouble with in the past 8 months. My older ones are just fine. This is disappointing, at best.

You can call Ruger and explain the problem and they will probably send you a pre-paid return label.

I've had one FTF with mineout of 200 rds. I switched from Remington to Winchester ammo. The bullet design is different the WBW are more t-cone shaped like the .40 fmjs. I also went to the garage and looked at the empties I picked up and they are pretty much dead center with the firing pin strikes. Sorry to hear about ya'lls bad luck hope mine holds up.

The Kel-Tec P3AT's had (maybe still have?) a similar problem. The smilies were actually caused by the bottom of the feed ramp. When a round was fired, as the slide went forward it would strip a round off the top of the magazine, as expected. That would drag the next round forward at high speed, slamming it into the rather-sharp bottom of the feed ramp, and causing those smilies. You could fire a few rounds, then drop the mag and see smilies on the top round in the mag. There was great concern that this could cause setback.

I believe they changed their feed ramp partly through the Gen 1 versions to eliminate that.

Here's pictures of a couple of rounds with smilies from my previously-owned Kel-Tec:

My relatively recent (January) P-3AT had the same smiley problem. After carefully taking my Dremel to the bottom of the feed ramp the smilies are mostly gone. I also polished the snot out of the rest of it, because it would FTF after about 50 rounds of powder residue. Shouldn't have to do this with a new gun, but it works great now and you can't beat the size/power/weight combination.

So. Today's mail brings me acknowledgment of receipt of my LCP. It's progress, I guess. Smile

I met Mike Fifer, CEO of Ruger, Saturday. He was at my local shop for two days. They moved a lot of LCPs! I left with a barely used Rohrbaugh R9s Stealth, however. 9mm and very nicely made.

I didn't ask about their LCP issues though.

New product launches have their quirks and issues -- I understand that, as that's part of what I do for a living. This time it happened to Ruger; next time it may happen to someone else. I'm not uptight about it -- sure, I wish it hadn't happened, but I'm not the sort to get bent too far out of shape over it.

I'm a little impatient, I'm sure -- I spent the dollars and right now I have nothing to show for it. However, Ruger customer service has done a good job for me before, and I predict they'll come through for me again.

It's just frustrating to buy something (reguardless of cost) and to have it not work "as advertised". This goes double for something to be carried as a possible life saver no less.

If that's what you are worried about you better return those .380 rounds too. Big Grin
Just kidding, don't kill me. Smile

I also purchased a Rohrbaugh, I got tired of waiting on the LCP. My wife loves it, never leaves home without it!!.

I just picked my LCP up this morning. I gave a deposit and went on the waiting list. It only took 1 month, and I bought it for $299. I am pleased with the fit and finish. I hope to give it a "go" next week.

It's back!

Here's a clip from the repair report:

I'm planning to take it out tomorrow for a test run.

Okay. Now I want to know what kind of ammo is used by 1) Ruger, and 2) members who have LCP and like it.

I took the repaired LCP out this morning. It does now 1) feed every time it should, and 2) eject every fired casing. It does not, however, fire every time it should.

So now I'm thinking this is ammo-related.

Silly (optimistic) me: I left this morning with only the LCP and one brand of ammo (Remington white/green box). I should have taken the P3AT and another ammo with me as well. Anyway, I had several rounds that did not fire. I ejected them upon non-fire, and put them back into the magazine once the other cartridges in the magazine had been fired. On two occasions (shown above) I had cartridges that did not fire upon second strike.

(Afterthought: should I even try to fire a cartridge that has been attempted once? Is it dangerous to retry?)

I really want to like this gun, but it's not showing me the reliability yet. Frown

I need to send my LCP back as well. I put 150 rounds through it with no problems, but after I tried some Bersa pinky extensions, the mag would drop after every shot. I switched back to the flat mag bottoms, but the mags keep dropping. I think I messed up the magazine catch. Why do these gun manufacturers make them out of freaking plastic? A metal magazine against a plastic magazine catch, yeah that will hold up!

I'm also having problems with the brass casings getting gouged; tiny flecks of brass all over the inside of the slide.

Not very confidence inspiring, but after all it is a v1.0 gun! Frown
