I'm in Gainesville and work at Oakwood Sportsman's lodge if you want to shoot mine.

I have the small frame.

I vote any of the above. You can't go wrong with either three.

I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke.

I see no real benefit to a polymer framed pistol unless the manufacturer offers a systems approach with their available models. Consequently, the only real contenders, in my opinion, are:

  • HK - P2000sk, P2000 & P30
  • Springfield Armory - XDsc, XDservice & XDtactical
  • Smith & Wesson - MPc, MP & MPl
  • Glock - 26, 19, 17, 34, 17L

Of those listed above, I personally need to discount Glock as I get slide bite when running them. Smith & Wesson does not have the history that I am comfortable with and HK is very clearly out of my price range, currently. Consequently, the XD is only viable solution for me.

Now, do not get me wrong, I absolutely appreciate the SIG Pro as a service/training/home defense pistol but it lacks the versatility I believe a polymer framed platform should offer. Unfortunately, SIG SAUER failed to notice the market trend and wasted time on the P250 which could have been better utilized, in my opinion, with bringing a long slide and (truly) compact model of the SIG Pro to market. It honestly seems like a waste of market momentum to relegate the Pro to a one-size-fits-all solution with all of the potential it offers.

Regards,
Will M.

I like the Sig Pro 2022. For now you can get one with three magazines for around $459. I have read nothing but good things about them and they are supposed to have a great trigger.

If we were talking about a factory new P7M8 or something like that, I could see your point. Maybe you have to have a whole lot of guns before you appreciate this but I've grown rather jaded to guns that are "good enough." If there is a gun that I really like, I can't see saving $100-$200 for some other gun that even I consider inferior. I'll end up regretting it. I'm not a police department trying to budget for 500 guns or something!

CDNN is selling the P30 for $704.25. The P30L is $769.25. And the top of the line HK45 is $829.99. $15 shipping for any of them. None of those guns are inexpensive but IMO those prices aren't so high that they put the guns out of reach.

Do I even need to say that when this is the SIG forum? Buy quality. You are better off in the long run.

Gregg

Go for the XD-9. I've got the subcompact and it points extremely well and is very accurate. You get 2 x 10 Rounders and 1 x 16 rounder with a grip extension built in. Glocks were out for me - I held the S&W but it didn't feel right and I didn't like the trigger. H&K was night but I didn't like the controls on the 2000SK. XD-series are great guns. If SIG made a true subcompact I would have bought that, but I digress...

Good Idea to rent some and figure out what you like... I've been lucky, however. Both the P220 and XD-9 were bought after reading a magazine on them, holding them in the gun store, and shooting them for the first time after I already owned them... But I've had my share of not so good as well... Glock 27 and SIG 230... never really liked either and sold them away for others... Enjoy the search!

All excellent guns. Try them all.

I like the M&P best. I use one in USPSA production and in IDPA SSP, so I have a lot of rounds through it. Then the XD, although I haven't shot more than maybe 25 rounds out of one. I don't much are for the way Glocks feel - it is probably mostly that it is different, but I can't get used to the different feel.

Well I will say that the G19 is a good choice. I have owned all the ones except the M&P. I had one in 45 though.

I would be happy to let you try any of my Glocks 17,19,26,27,22 and Steyr M9A1 if you like. I am in the Kennesaw area. I will say this. I regret selling my SP2009 Blueline, they are very well made.

I currently only have second gen. Glock 19s and 22s plus one third gen. G17. The second generation G19s fit my hand well, conceal well IWB and I have never had any function problems with the 5 I own. Mags have been easy to get and the G18 30+ rounders are available in a pinch. Prices are fairly reasonable. 4 are stock except for the addition of the "butt plug". The 5th has a Bar-Sto bbl, steel guide rod and light trigger.

Have you looked at the Steyr M series? My M40 is one of my favorites.

I'm partial to DA triggers so I gotta do it...

I recommend you try the Walther P99. I absolutely love mine. The grip angle works, the trigger is great, they are VERY reliable and accurate.

My second choice would be the Sig Pro just because of the amazing deals on them right now. After that I'd pick one of the HK polymers. The P30 or P2000 would be good choices.

++1. My chunky hand does not like the finger grooves on the 19/23 so I love the second generation guns in these models. Either gen in fine on the full size 17/22s for me. And, you can frequently find great bargain on a second generation g19 on gunbroker, I have.

Beretta Px4 Storm, full size and SC.

I've owned the XD9SC, M&P Compact (9mm) and also a Glock 33 (.357 SIG). I didn't care for the XD trigger as it raised a blister on my trigger finger after 50 rounds. The M&P trigger felt like the internals were made using nail files. The Glock 33? .357 SIG ammo got too expensive for practice.

I rented the Px4 full size twice at my local range and decided to buy it. For $525 out the door, it was a steal. Then two weeks later, the SC showed up and I brought it home.
