and need help. First question, why? I like my all steel and alloy frame pistols, but I'd like to test the water again. I had a G23 for a few years in the past and traded it with some cash for a truck
1) G19- I'm willing to try again 2) XD9- Feels good in my hand, never shot one. 3) MP9- Feels good in my hand, short track record 4)??? BTW, my current inventory is all wheel guns and single stacks. Why do I need a "High Cap"? I think I just want one |

The Glock grip angle really annoys me. Because I only owned one Glock, everything else in my collection (Sigs, 1911, HK, Ruger) has a similar grip angle but the damn Glock. My first hundred or so rounds with the Glock 19 would always be high. I should add that the G19 was VERY accurate and reliable. I could adjust to the Glocks grip angle in a few hundred rounds but with the price of ammo I am barely even shooting 9mm these days.
If I were to do it over I would buy an XD9 instead of a Glock 19. ~~~GO COLTS~~~ |

4) SP2022- Excellent trigger, accurate, reliable. German imported ones are going for $459 right now from Top Gun Supply. 3 mags, Ilaflon finish. Would recommend to anyone.

I have all three and really like the M&P the most. It has the best trigger by far. It was gritty for the first few hundred rounds and then smoothed out. I did my own trigger job and it is now very smooth with a good reset. Some people have a dislike for it because it's new but mine has been nothing but dead on.
The XD is one great shooter and I can pick it up and put rounds in a small hole very easy. It was my bedside gun for a long time. Then I sent my 226 to Bruce and bought a M&P. After shooting them a lot I went a shoot the XD and was short stroking it. The long reset was killing my when I tried to shoot it fast. So it sits in the safe because I don't trust myself to run it when needed. The Glock well it's a Glock. It goes bang when asked. I am not a big Glock fan. All three guns have been utterly reliable. The XD and M&P both have a few thousand rounds through them. The Glock I bought used and have only a few hundred through it. |

I think the ergo's of the M&P beat just about everything out there. The one exception being the new polymer HK P30. I find the M&P's trigger to be more to my liking than the DA/SA of the P30 though.
You should consider some HK's though. While NIB is typically out of the price range you've quoted, used ones can be found for around that much. HK's have a great reputation for reliability. Their triggers leave something to be desired. Ergo's are hit and miss, depending on your size/shape/preferences. cc |

since you like sigs and want a plastic frame why not the P250. Great shooter and I love mine.

Now that you've mentioned it, I have pulled the trigger on a new M&P and a rental M&P and the rental was very smooth. |

I wanted one before they even came out until I handled one and my first thoughts were "too thick and trigger waaaaaay too long". |

Of the guns you listed I would go with the XD but the Sig Pro 2022 is also a VERY good pistol and definitly worth looking into. It is a pretty good time to pick up a Sig Pro since many vendors have them in stock. A few months back the SP2022 was not an easy gun to find for sale.

My favorite polymer framed pistols are the SIG P250 and the HK's (P2000, P2000SK, P30, HK45c). Of those listed, I'd pick the XD as I don't like the Glock grip angle. YMMV.

I have to vote for the Sig Pro2022 also. I picked one up not too long ago and love it so far.

Never been that big of a Glock fan but the G19 is probably my favorite. The odd feeling trigger and hump on the back are the biggest detractions. FWIW- I do have a G17. Big advantage to Glock is the simplicity and parts availability. Probably the easiest gun made to customize to your tastes.
XD has the best feel in my hand. It can also have the best trigger of the 3 with a little work. But it sits the highest in the hand so it will have more muzzle flip when shot. Good solid dependable pistol though and I will probably get one eventually. I like the way the M&P feels but was disappointed when I shot it. It was just a 9mm but recoil felt like a 40 cal. It seemed to torque to the right. The trigger feels like a trigger and can be slicked up really sweet. Still that recoil issue bugs me. It's worse than my little Kahr P9. I haven't shot one of the newer SIGs in Polymer. The last one I shot was a SigPro about 10 years ago. It wasn't bad but I prefered my 226 (who wouldn't). A really good feeling polymer gun is the Taurus OSS. I like the feel and features. But it has had some complaints of reliability and accuracy. At least when it first came out. I don't know if it has been debugged by now. Craig |

Regardless of the poll below I went with the 250.

Honestly, there are enough threads and posts on the G19 even here at Sigforum that you could spend a few weeks just reading through all of them.
The G19, XD9, and M&P9 are all pretty much the same design. So it looks to me like you want a striker fired 9mm. I chose the G19/26 route, but you may also want to take a look at the Walther P99. I personally think the AS version is better than Springfield and Smith&Wesson's offerings. Still, the Springfield, S&W, and Walther won't even come close to the amount of aftermarket parts available for the Glock. All can be made to have pretty good triggers for a price. All except the Glock really need to go to a gunsmith or someone who really knows their stuff to improve the trigger. No drop ins for them. If you have a whole bunch of other guns and grip angle is an issue (never seemed to be an issue for me), I would any of the 3. They are all great handguns, and any one will serve you well. Good luck with your decision. ------------------------------- Glock 26 (EDC) || Glock 19 || I've sold the rest! "Beware the man with one gun." I have a 2340 that I shot for the first time yesterday. Very nice hole (note "hole") in the target

Every time I get a chance I handle a Glock or two just to verify my memory and every time I find that the guns just don't "fit me." So far, I haven't found a reason to own a gun I just "don't like" even though it may have other very "redeeming" virtues.
When I bought my SP2022 a few weeks ago, I was also jonesing seriously over the HK P30, which fits me very nicely and has some other very nice features. In the end, I bought the Sig because of what I thought was a better trigger pull. A bonus was that I wound up with 2 SPs for just a dollar or two more than I would have paid for 1 P30. I don't think you could go wrong with the SP2022, for all the reasons that have been put forth here. Spend the extra money, if you don't like the G19, and get a P30 or P2000.

Of my various polymer autos, the one I used to shoot the most is my Glock 35. Mostly I shoot it with a Jarvis .357 SIG barrel installed. Shot it a lot at home and used it for IDPA as well.
I put all of that in the past tense because early this year I bought an HK45. I have put three or four times more rounds through it this year than I have my G35. Not saying I don't like my G35 anymore because I really DO like it a lot. But the HK45 is the best "new gun" I've bought in several years. I would like to buy one of the new H&K P30L's as well but there goes more money on HK's! I've already got a P7, a P7M8, and the newish HK45. I think that's going to have to be all of those for a year or two! Gregg ____________________________ "Steel is no stronger than the sinew that wields it." -- Si-Rrit |
