I bought the gun used but in the past if the gun was still under warranty that was no problem, warranty was warranty. I called SIG and since the gun is used (yes, i was honest, I told them I bought it used), they want $150+ to replace the extractor including shipping both ways.
I asked about the Lifetime Warranty. It's "non-transferable" according to the guy on the phone. So, even if it falls within the Lifetime Limited Warranty (note the operative word is limited) that doesn't apparently matter. So, I have a P220ST that is out of the water due to a manufacturer's defect, a clearly documented failure for the P220ST and SIG will not repair it under warranty. I don't know the age of the gun so I don't know if it is still under the original warranty, although I expect it is not. I guess I'm going to try to find the guy from whom I bought it and verify the age. SIG will not go that either any more unless you pay for it. Sheesh! So, how hard is it to replace an extractor? SIGWolf,
I am definitly sorry to hear about your 220ST. I have not replaced an extractor but from what I saw in the Sig Armorers DVD it is not that hard if you have the right tools. Good luck getting you 220ST fixed. ~~~GO COLTS~~~ |

You should look into replacing it on your own with a new part from Top Gun Supply or wherever you can get one. Get the excellent DVD, too, which should help you handle the process. It's isn't too hard.
Regarding the warranty, with Sig it is true that the warranty is only to the original owner, regardless of the length of term. So, it wouldn't really matter if it's still under the original warranty time frame or not. With a warranty, they'll give you pre-paid labels so you don't pay anything for shipping or the repair. Without a warranty, shipping could be potentially $50-$100 each way, not counting the repair cost. Try to do the repair yourself in this case, I would say. |

It is not hard at all. I would recommend getting Orndorff's Armourer's DVD. You could do it in less than 5 minutes with a small screwdriver.

I have the Armorers DVD so I guess I'll dip into that. Although I don't have any tools really other than just your normal sort of stuff.
I'm really disappointed in SIG service. Honestly, I've had guns repaired under warranty, no questions asked. If I had the gun and it was under warranty, they would repair it. What is a real bummer is that this is definitely a manufacturers defect. We all know it is based on all the posts on the forum regarding the extractor issues. Wouldn't it only be changed with a small screwdriver if it were an external extractor model? If it's an internal extractor model, I believe you need to punch out the pin(s) and remove the block in order to replace the extractor. I could be wrong. I honestly don't remember for sure.

Replacing it your self is not a big issue. There may be a little tuning involved, but also not a big issue.
That's really shitty of Sig as i've had used guns worked on under there policy, though it was a CPO. If you're not comfortable doing it your self send if off to GGI and get it a little buttered up! They did wonders on my 220ST. Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow main is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themselves with out this law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven". Such is the rule of honor. |

Might not hurt to call back again in a few days.
I called Kimber's customer service when my TLE/RL I bought used started failing to feed. (external extractor) They didnt ask me if I was the orignal owner and I sure as heck didnt bring it up. The told me if I shipped it to them they would fix it and ship it back free of charge. Kimber now has a loyal customer. ~~~GO COLTS~~~ |

It is one of the internal extractors.
I don't think the block comes out of the ST models, it's all one piece. I know with the GSR external extractor it's not big deal. You have to push out the pin on which the extractor pivots and then replace the extractor and spring then put the pin back in. Perhaps the external extractors on the newer SIGs works in a similar way. As for the internal extractor it almost looks like it simply fits into the cutout in the slide. I'll just have to dig out the DVD and check. "Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans." -John Lennon |

Get the Sig DVD.
I replaced my P226ST extractor in 15 minutes for $30 in material costs from TGS. P229 SAS 9mm, P228 German 9mm |

SIGWolf,
TopGunSupply has 220 internal extractors for a pretty good price. As has been mentioned, a few minutes with a screwdriver and you're back in business. I took one of my 220ST extractors out to clean it once when I was having trouble. It's a little tricky to get the right pressures on the extractor, but not hard. |

I would buy the parts and tackle it yourself.
If you get really stuck, we are probably not that far apart (I am 15 miles from Brattleboro) and could probably meet somewhere to get you squared away. -Scott -Certified Sig Sauer Armorer -Grayguns Adjunct Instructor -NRA Instructor -MA Certified Firearms Instructor |

Egaads that sucks. I had a HK P7 that needed repair that I was not the original owner of and they took care of it. In fact that old beat up P7 came back so nice I thought they gave me a new gun. Luckily that extractor is not to big a deal to replace as others have mentioned. One could certainly come away from that experiance with a bad feeling about SIG as a company. You either make a high quality product you stand behind, or you don't (on either count). |

Masigchist, you're a good man to make such an offer. Too bad you don't live in SE PA; I'd buy you a beer. _____________________________ Move on. There's nothing more to see here. |

Thanks for the offer, it's very good of you! I'll see how it goes. I do have a spare P220 stainless slide which I believe I will cannibalize for the extractor until i can get another one from TGS.
