I currently own P226 DAK, P229DAK, P239DAK all in 9mm. Obsviously I'm a fan of the DAK trigger, but mostly cause it works great for me in my LE career. Anywayz I'm looking to pick up a 1911. Anyone got any ideas or opinions on the Sig 1911's? Not sure if I want to go with the Sig 1911 or something different like, Colt, Kimber, etc.
Thanks

Hey, Buddy.

Former member of the US Secret Service here. Thank you for what you do to keep us safe, my friend.

While I've never shot a SIG 1911, they look sweet. However, I bought a S&W 1911PD (Lightweight Commander-sized in terms of size and weight) about a year ago and it's my current carry gun. I'd give 'em a look. I'm impressed with the one I bought for sure. She's a shooter and 100% reliable.

I also own Colt and Kimber 1911's. Both have treated me very, very well. I'm a little partial to the Kimber over the Colt.

Best of luck with your search.

I don't own a Sig 1911 but I do have a Dan Wesson PM7, a Colt and an early Kimber (no ILS).
If I were to buy another 1911 today, it would be the Dan Wesson, as in my opinion, they are the best value for the money - well made with quality internals (many Ed Brown parts) no ILS, tight, accurate, etc.

Indeed, I may be purchasing another DW in the near future, the Valor.

I'm a big fan of Loaded Springfield 1911's. Smile

I think any SW, Sig, Colt, Kimber will also treat you just fine.

I have shot a number of 1911's, although never a Sig. Of those I have shot, I LOVED the Springfield Armory 1911. I shot it very well, not sure why I shot it better than other 1911's.

I think the SIG 220 is the best combat pistol out of the box.
But I am not convinced that the SIG 1911s are of the same quality. I would look at a Wilson Combat or Kimber.
Just me.

the next 1911 I buy will be either a STI or Dan Wesson PM-7

Both guns have got great reviews and when I was shopping for my first 1911 they were my 2 choices until I found a steal of a deal on a springer.

Haven't had the chance to shoot any of the other 1911's that forum members rave about (DW, SA, Kimber, Colt), but I do have a Sig 1911 GSR and I love it! 1200 flawless rounds thru her and still kicking. I guess the real question is how much are you looking to spend?

1911 GSR w/Rail
SigPro 2022 9mm
G30
DPMS AR-15
Mossy 500

Marshall- Go PHILLS i was at game 4 the one before it rained, thank god!
Thanks for the response's guys. Always wanted to pick up a 1911, not work but for fun and spend alot of time putting rounds down range when not training with duty weapons.
Never heard of the Dan Wesson models, Im going to be looking into that more.

Just looked at those Dan Wesson models, sweet 1911's!!! Look real nice. Only problem is closest dealer to me is in Ely, NV doesn't help me living Vegas. Anyone know brokers who could get a decent price on those Dan Wesson Valor's?

If I were you,I wouldn't rule out the Sig 1911's. I have a GSR in the very low 2000 serial number range and it has been excellent. I have tried to get it to choke with every thing from 114 grain Agella IQ ammo to 255 grain lead home made pin loads.Good luck on your pick.

Don't listen to the 1911 Sig haters. They are all talking about PAST problems. I have a 1911 STX which i bought about 6 months ago. I already have almost 5,000 rounds through it and it is FLAWLESS. It has become my favorite gun for everything!!! I use it for IDPA shoots, range use and since it's cold now, my carry gun. Definately look into it. I did alot of research and for the money, it's the best on the market. If you don't mind spending another $1,000 I'd go for a Les Baer (next on my list), but for the money, it's the best there is.

239 .40 DAK
229 .40
220 Carry SAS
1911 STX

I agree 100%! I own Kimbers, Colts, Dan Wesson Valor, and recently a Sig 1911. The Sig was a odd purchase, it was offered, dismissed, re-offered, reconsidered, and bought.
BOY! Am I glad I did! Great pistol! Great Value.
ALL my 1911's are great shooters, well made, accurate, reliable. The Sig fits right in! For the $, nothing to compare.. Dan Wesson is Close though.

I'm a LEO and my dept. is about to approve 1911s for duty carry. From everything I've been reading, and from what I've gathered from people that know alot more than I do about 1911s the Springfield MC operator is the shiznit for duty carry. Price is right too, hovering around $1,000 from all the web sights Ive looked at.

I have shot the OX Sig and the Kimber II range rentals. The Sig was very easy to shoot. Made me glad I didnt put money down on another 45acp platform. Didnt think it would be a great carry weapon till I saw Magnum PI hide one while wearing just shorts and a tshirt. Thin is good. I may not get the full size 250 now.

My salesman let me fondle 4 different 1911s. The sig was tight, well built and made me rethink dropping more than a grand for a new gun.

That said, would anyone else recommend the Ed Brown. And what is up with the caution on their website to only shoot seven of the eight rounds then reload. Will have a lot of mags on the ground with one round in them.

Don't buy a "1911" with a proprietary extractor.
