Are you aware of the history of the 220? Do you know that the first 220 prototypes were built for the 9mm only, and that only after some time did SIG and Sauer decide to make the pistol a multi-caliber platform? Do you know that 220s were first available in 9mm only? Do you know that there are tens of thousands of 220s chambered in 9mm?

In the case of this particular gun, yes, the steel frame makes it less than practical, but that 9mm slide can be put on an alloy frame as well.
With regards to the malfunctions I've experienced, one needs to keep in mind that this is a parts gun. It's going to require some tweaking. If you read further into the thread than the first post, you'll see that I have made some progress with my efforts, and she's running better. The pistol is about to be sent to GGI, and when it comes back, it will be close flawless.
But the fact that exists at all is neat, regardless of it's practicality, and I'm the only kid on the block who has one. So let's lighten up and try to appreciate this project for it's novely and educational benefits, shall we?

I don't think steel makes it any less practical.

Unless you completely equate practicality with weight, which I wouldn't recommend, but I'm just a neophyte...

Apart from the GGI treatment and tweaking, the pistol shouldn't be changed IMO. I am thrilled to know you possess such a pistol!

I carry a P220 .45 on duty, but if they produced the 10rd magazines a la the new Wilson, this and the 9mm P220 American in general would make a hell of an IDPA gun. I applaud your efforts.

I've owned a P6 before, which you could consider more "appropriately" sized for a single stack 9mm. Personally, I prefer the feel of the P220 regardless. For some reason I just like the way the grip feels. There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own preferences. If everyone lived in the world of only what works, what's efficient, what is "necessary", we would all be shooting Glocks and driving Honda Civics, living in the same cookie cutter homes or something. Wink Variety is cool, and I for one applaud Para for coming up with a cool new "way" to do things.

Oh not to mention all of the militaries and police forces around the world that have issued this gun at some point. Yeah, Sig certainly didn't pursue the 220 9mm and it was such a huge failure alright. Roll Eyes

Nice..

Your frankengun project reminds me of when I built a 220 Sport out of a old style railed 220 ST.

It looks great and I wish you the best in your future endeavors!!

That's pretty bitchin'. Personally, I think such a gun would sell fairly well here. It seems like an enthusiasts piece, but there are lots of SIG/Sauer enthusiasts.

Now the thought of that all stainless project of yours done in 38super with a heavy spring for loading "major powewr" supers is giving me wood thinking of it.

Something I wish sig would do;take a all steel 220 platform and build it for full power 38super for the stock class steel challenge. Cool

Looks like you can beat them to if if you want Smile Smile

I Love Frankenguns! While the ordnance officer for SDVT-2, we built an M-14 with a suppressor and tactical rail. When big Navy found out, they were pissed! Now they build them in quantity.

Sounds like a great platform to make a 9x23...

Very cool! Cool
Have you sent it to GGI yet? If so, when do you expect its return.
