2000 is correct.

It was probably manufactured in Germany, and assembled in the States, assuming it doesn't have any proof marks.

And unless something changed, SIG does have records older than that, but it sounds like they're not willing to go digging through microfiche anymore.

Just bought new to me P239 40 S&W with serial Number SA4-67XXX. Anyone with number close to this and know about what year? Does not have any other markings other than stainless on slide. 1998 on grips. No wear on finish, grips show slight wear, is a very clean gun, shoots great. I gave $400 for it with black Sig Arms box 2 mags and manual. Was that a good deal? Thanks for any information.

Greetings. For what its worth, I have 3 P232's. One SL (rollmarked) s/n 260xxx, proof mark ...AE (2004?), one black s/n 294xxx, no proof mark, and one black s/n209xxx, proof mark ...KH (1997?) NOTE: My old eyes cannot decipher the two leading proofmark characters but as soon as I either get a magnifier or my kids get home, I will post "where" these were assembled. Of the 3, the SL has been my CDC for about 5 years....absolutely love it. Interestingly, the SL has red 3 dot site, the others are white 3 dot. Would love to put night sites on the SL but hate to mess with what the Germans thought was best!

I apologize if this was already answered in the thread, but does anybody know the exact production years the P228 was manufactured in W. Germany?

And on that note, anyone willing to sell?
Thanks for your help!

I called Sig and was told that my serial number was older than there records. I have a date on my box and the date was not what I was really calling about. This gun is two tone and I was told from the gun store salesman it was a factory finish. I have seen two tones before but this is reversed. The slide is Nitron but the frame is almost a slightly yellowed stainless look. It's a P229 40 S&W. It came with everything in the original box and one mag shows zero signs of ever even being put in the gun. The other has extremely slight ware. It still looks new. Serial number is AM 39 xxx. Does anyone have an idea what the coating might be?
