So I want a light weight 38 snub nose revolver that shoots +P. For pocket carry. Was looking at the S & W bodyguard or hammerless.

Then today at the Gun shop I saw one of these LCR's.

What are your thoughts on the new little LCR's?

Update: I'd holster carry it as well sometimes Cool

This picture was pulled from the internet. If it's yours hope you don't mind me using it.

Haven't heard anything good or bad about em. I've thought of getting one but, plastic frame revolver kinda turns me off. Plus the plastic frame doesn't make it MUCH lighter than a S&W 442 or similar. Though I do like the look of the cylinder.

Does anyone make a good holster for them yet?. Of course the OP said Pocket Carry, so maybe holsters don't matter.

Sure Holsters matter thanks for bringing it up
I added it to my original question.

I like mine. Only 200+ rounds so far. Nice trigger, light and accurate. Only negatives are the black finish chipped off of the aluminium in several places and POI is slightly left of POA. The sights being off is no consequence when LCR is used at distances it was designed for, but I'd like to be able to make 25 yard shots without having to hold off target.
I prefer the LCR over the S&W M38 and M60.

What about the trigger? How does it compares to the J Frames?

"Chipped off?!?!" I thought the coating used on that frame was supposed to have been chosen for its toughness and wear characteristics?

I'd send it back. Wear, I can handle. Scuff and scratches happen. But chipping? Not acceptable.

Nor would I find that acceptable.

I thought I wanted one of these. I hope yours is not typical of these guns.

I had a student use one in a class. His fit/functioned/looked fine, but it's not a 25 yard gun. This is the prototypical "get off me" gun, not something to go on the offensive with.

I carried a jframe for awhile when holstering was not a option. I honestly can say I prefer the LCR over the Jframe.

LCR trigger is better
Jframe sight channel is much better
LCR is lighter
LCR recoil is a little lighter

I only shot 5 rounds out of a friends, and I thought the trigger to be typical of DAO revolvers... similar to the J frame.

I looked them but was able to find a no lock 642, at a good price so I jumped on that.

I have the laser grip version of the LCR on me right now. It stays with me during warmer weather or when I just want something light weight to carry. The LCR has the best DAO trigger of any revolver I've tried. The S&W's are great guns but the Ruger LCR's cammed trigger has a better feel to it.

Most hammerless revolver triggers are rather heavy at the beginning of the pull, the LCR trigger starts out with a lighter pull and smoothly progresses heavier. Your finger is stronger when partially curled than when it's stretched out and the cam action works with those natural characteristics. When dry-firing I can keep the laser on a very small spot while repeating trigger pulls. The frame geometry (and possibly the polymer frame) does reduce the recoil a bit compared to most snubbies, it shoots well even with +P loads.

The finish on the metal has held up extremely well, I've been carrying it consistently since the LCR's were released and there's no noticeable wear visible so far.

My local range had one for rent a while back and I took it out a few times to play with it. I prefered it to the J-Frame and the Ruger SP 101 I had also tried. They were all rental guns so I don't put too much stock in their inherent accuracy, but I easily shot the LCR more accurately than the other two and enjoyed shooting it more. The trigger feel and the big spongy grip worked for me. I've been looking into getting one but they are still a little scarce anywhere except gunbroker, and I don't feel like paying those prices.

I have a nice 15oz 642 that doesn't get carried much now that I have an LCP. Recoil with +P is on the snappy side, but you don't HAVE to shoot +P. There are several adequate standard power rounds.

I owned a S&W 442 in the past and fired an LCR a few months back and thought the LCR's trigger was 1000x better than the Smith, it was nice and smooth and felt lighter.

If were to ever pick up another snubbie, it would be an LCR.

I am exceptionally happy with mine. Even my girlfriend has shot it and she liked it even with +P. Prices are starting to get better too. Got it for $419 tax tag and title.

For pocket carry save yourself a lot of time and money. Go to Mika's Pocket Holsters. Real nice guy. Prices are great. Custom made. Best of luck. Smile
