Recently picked up a Beretta 92D. It wasnt untila few days later I noticed the backstrap had a blueish color to it. I thought it was just the lighting where I was as I was using an LED and halogen in the same area. I pulled the grips and can see it definitely not black. I first thought someone had it refinished, not a big deal since it was a PD trade(Indianapolis PD) I started to look further and found a couple a couple other PD from Indy and they also had a 2 tone looking finish.
To further make me scratch my head, to my eye, the blue/grey color is more prominent on the grip area and almost fades away on the dust cover and trigger guard area.
Does anyone know about the Indy PD guns or have any insight as to the finish on this gun:

I have 20-25 examples of the 92. I have one that looks similar and it was a police surplus 90-TWO but it was brand new/unissued. I think perhaps there was a slightly different spec on anodizing on LE guns and maybe over time it ages differently. It gives them character if if all things were equal, I'd love that vs. the typical thin ano that 92's can have.
I have a second that was NP3'ed and polished but you can see a bit of the color of the black lower here. I'll try to get a better pic against a fresh ano job and the Wilson Combat BrigTac series which also has a better factory finish.
