BOUGHT A P365 New Pistol: SIG P365 SAS or Kimber 1911 Custom LW Login/Join

I have $200 in reward points at Bass Pro/Cabela’s and I’m considering purchasing one of these. I wanted a 9mm 1911 for a while but that SAS is very interesting to me. I went in and handled both but couldn’t decide. Both are new and right at $600.

I already have several CCW pistols so I don’t know if I’d carry the P365 much unless it was a true stand-out. It would have to compete with my most carried pistols: Kahr K9, HK P30SK, HK P7M8, & Glock 42.

The Kimber would likely just be a range toy. This one is supposedly a model exclusive to Bass Pro (according you the sales guy). It seems like a decent price but I’m sure there are cost-saving measures, for instance a plastic mainspring housing that I wasn’t too hip on. I also have other pistols that fill this role: CZ 75 matte stainless, SIG P226/228, S&W 3906, etc.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Question:
Kimber 1911 Custom LW or SIG P365 SAS

Choices:
Kimber 1911 Custom LW
SIG P365 SAS

If you can, shoot an SAS before you decide. The sighting system is great in any kind of natural light, but varies in different kinds of artificial light. Function is great and it’s the sexiest pistol I own, but if I had a do over, I might pick the standard version.

The main reason I liked it was for that sight. I’ll check the local range that has rentals but I’d be surprised if it has one.

I just got a DW 9mm Valor from a forum member. The 9mm 1911 is just nice IMO and I tried the P365 and it didn't really fit my hand well at all.

I didn't vote because you didn't list jerky, but between the two I'd go with the Kimber.

Having seen your work, photoman12001, I'll just say the Kimber is a lot more photogenic. Smile

I love the P365 but wouldn't really want an SAS.

I just ordered a Kimber 1911 Rapide Black Ice in 9mm from Cabela's. They had a nice price on it and I have been wanting another 9mm 1911.

The SAS sighting system is very different, I'd look at one first. I posted a longer thing on it when trying one and to keep it short I'd say I'm not sure about the decision to port the barrel. In the dark the muzzle blast from the ports caused me to lose the sight for a second or two. Without the ports I think I'd like it better.I'm still not sold on the SAS sight vs the standard 365 which isnt terribly snaggy but I understand the draw of the interesting sight.

I am considering a non-SAS model too.

There is, at the very least, a slide without ports but with the SAS sight. If they have released that as a version then I'd lean more towards that or the standard sights. Thats me though. My best advice is to go check them out.

I own the SAS as well as the original 365. (And the XL as well).

If I had a do-over, I would never buy the SAS version. Then again, without buying it and putting it through its paces, I wouldn't know what I know now. That funky single sight system is just not the sat's meow that Sig claims it is. I'm no fan of ported pistols, especially defensive pistols.

I AM definitely a fan of the SAS frame ... no snag. The slide stop/release will quickly break a nail if you try to use it, but you can easily sling shot the slide, even with wet fingers.

Personally, I think the SAS frame, coupled with the XL slide would make for an awesome carry gun. That's why I'm currently keeping mine ... I'm looking for an affordable XL slide assembly.

I think the ports will kill the SAS model for me. I’m still torn between a P365 of some kind and the Kimber. I’m not sure I’ll likely use more but probably the P365.

After using my points I’d be into this one just over $200. That seems like a pretty good deal. I’d probably use it more than a 9mm 1911.

Since they were out of the holsters for the $430 package the pistol was only $380. That was great because I didn’t want the holster. After military discount and Club points it was $184 out the door. I couldn’t resist that. If I want I can buy an SAS slide from SIG for it and still have a good deal and no ports.

I recently bought a new holster for my Glock 42 which will likely be replaced by the P365. Luckily the P365 fits in it perfectly. That’s right, a 10-round 9mm pistol fits perfectly in a holster made for a 6-round .380ACP pistol. Crazy.

My pistol was made OCT2019. I’m assuming any widespread bugs were worked out by then, right?

Was that price a local sale price? I’v eklooked at our local shop and they’re still $450.

I’m not sure. That sale ended yesterday though. It was advertised in a mailer.

Great decision on the Sig. I have the original with 1200 rounds that has been flawless so far. I bought 2 12 round mags which I prefer and different pinky extension for the 10 rounders.

The Sig also fits perfectly in all my old Kahr PM9 holsters.

I shot my new SIG P365 today and I was impressed. It took a couple of mags to get a feel for it but performance was excellent. No malfunctions over the 100 rounds. Accuracy/precision were good if I did my part, especially for its intended. Recoil was surprisingly low for a 9mm that’s so small. I think this will be my new EDC firearm. I shot a few others too, including my suppressed S&W Model 41 which is probably my favorite gun overall. Of course, I also had a few blades along with me.

Nice! Don't think any of us could resist that!

I wouldn't bother with the Kimber, and if getting a P365, I wouldn't get the SAS. A standard P365 makes a pretty impressive little pocket pistol.
