Problem is he asked for Compact. 639 would be considered a fullsize (I have one).

There's a reason you don't see DW's in Classifieds...because they are scooped up in a matter of days or even hours. My local forum has a Kimber every week that lingers for days or even weeks. Not so with DW.

If you want to make the case that there are just more Kimbers sold so there are more used one's for sale I get that. If you want to ask guys like me who have owned a number of both of them the answer is simple...I own a half dozen DW's and NO Kimbers now. There is a reason for that...quality mfg, quality parts, quality finish, quality CS, and affordable.

My last S&W 39-2 was the same size as my Sig P225.

I am constantly amazed at the number of times Dan Wesson guns are brought up in threads such as these. Hells bells, DW production doesn't amount to a pimple on a bulls arse.

Compare the CZ USA nuymbers for NY to the Kimber numbers right below:

https://www.atf.gov/resource-c...-2015-final/download

I have never seen a new DW offered for sale in any shop I visit.

The steel Kahr guns also seem to be hard to find anywhere other than the innerwebs as well, at least locally.

Maybe that's cause paying gunshop prices for guns is fucking retarded. I can name 2 shops within a mile or two of me that carry DW guns....but I would never pay their asinine prices. Just because your world doesn't have DW's in it doesn't make their guns any less great for the money. Oh and BTW how many Ultra sized Kimbers in 9mm are made in all Steel? Oh yeah ZERO. How many Springfield's compact 9mm's in all steel...oh yeah ZERO. How many Colt defender sized guns in 9mm...oh yeah ZERO. I can go all day. The reason I mentioned the DW is because it's one of 2-3 guns currently in production that ACTUALLY MEET THE OP's REQUIREMENTS!

Not as compact as some, but not large by any means either, Kimber Solo. 9mm, single stack, I think 6 or 7 rounds. Very nice pistol. I would consider one if I didn't like my Browning hipower better.

The Solo has an alloy frame and are terribly unreliable (which is likely responsible for it being now discontinued.) I bought one from a shop that allows returns on a whim. They had a range on site....I had 38 failures in the first 100 rounds.

All the B's and the BM are steel while the BKS and BKM are alloy framed.

They might have been a similar size but the 39-2 is a full size pistol in the S&W Lineup.

True enough, but the OP specifically stated "reliable" in the first post.

Yes, I know the frame is not steel:
However, the new Colt Light Weight Commander is very nice. As is always the case, trigger needs attention. . . . and its insides/outsides are standard 1911 unlike some of the offerings. Reliable even with light ammo. Recoil actually seems reduced due to double spring. Only issue is that I have yet to be able to budge the Novak rear sight even with MGW's delux tool nor with brass drift!

Just a thought. Mac

The P7 has been my long time favorite, since the 80's. Kahr K9's are in about second place (and both are profoundly accurate and remarkably similar in size), so the K9 would be my recommendation to the OP.
There is, however, also the Wilson EDC 9. It is certainly high quality. (And at $3600 makes even the P7 seem like a bargain.)

Absolutely no relation to this seller, but here's an MK9 Elite Package for sale on pafoa. They are asking $550.

You will have to register with the forum to contact the seller (Pittsburg) via PM. Pafoa is a good web-site, and they will not abuse your information.

I have an MK9 that I like quite a bit.

Yup, Kahr K9 is one heck of a size-efficient and shootable all-steel single stack.

It is not "all steel", but SIG P938, with an alloy frame and steel top end, is about the easiest to conceal (and to shoot) of the compact pistols I have tried. Carry in pocket or on belt. 6+1 rounds of 9mm. It bears the 1911 manual of operation.

Kahr is definitely a top pick along with the P7. Don't forget the T9. It's the larger Kahr but still a pretty small pistol. I like the S&W 3906 too but it's pretty large. Unfortunately the smaller 3rd gen Smiths were alloy framed.

All alluminum alloy, Star did make a compact model B in all steel I think.
Not quite accurate

While I would not classifiy any of these as compact, the Smith and Wesson models 539 and 3905 were carbon steel frames and slides while the models 639, 3906 and 3946 were stainless steel frames and slides.

Then there is the Smith and Wesson 952 which has been available in all carbon or all stainless

Speaking about the 1911s, Wilson calls their EDC 9 a "Compact" so it must be so, in every way except price. $3695 base list before add-ons. Just like that new double-stack of theirs, I have a tough time fathoming $3000+ CC guns, but apparently there must be enough well-heeled folks thumbing their noses at pedestrian, mundane poly SS guns and buying these instead.

Buy one of these and for sure you'll be the envy of your block...or the entire neighborhood...maybe even your whole city! Wink

Kahr K9 is the way to go. One of my favorites even though it is my Summer carry pistol.
Longer trigger pull but extremely smooth.

I almost forgot STI used to make the LS series in 9. They are small super thin 1911ish guns. I had one and it was very reliable but not all have had the same experience.

Here is a picture of the one I used to own next to a Glock 43 and 42

Not sure if they';re all steel, but a buddy of mine has/had 2 STI Escorts (9mm & .45)
Both reliable & sweet little shooters.

Edit: A quick Google shows AL frame.
