I'm experiencing a problem and guess I need to contact Sig CS. Here is the problem:

Slide is locked back, magazine has been removed, no shell in the chamber. I insert a full magazine, pull the slide back and release to allow a shell to be stripped from the magazine to chamber a round. Unfortunately, the slide does not move forward and no round is chambered. The slide acts just like it would if you tried to pull it back on an empty magazine....it remains in the rearward position.

I have tested this situation using brand new magazines and 2 different brands of ammunition (American Eagle and Remington UMC).

According to the Sig Manual, I should be able to chamber a round by pushing the slide catch lever down or manually drawing the slide back and releasing. If I push the slide catch lever down, a round is properly chambered.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I agree with widge that the slide catch lever spring is probably the culprit. To verify, try pushing up on the slide catch lever with no magazine in the gun. It should go back downward under spring pressure. If not, that's the problem.

There is a thread here somewhere with pics that shows the spring properly engaged to the grip and lever. Sometimes this spring can become disengaged from its proper position.

Thanks widge and Buster:
I just pushed up on the slide catch lever several times and it seems to go down each time when I release it. As it comes down, I can't really say I feel downward pressure from a spring, or if there is pressure it is very light.

Remove the left grip. The spring is underneath. It may be improperly assembled. Broken spring is unlikely but still possible, the triger return spring on my P6 broke the first weekend I owned it.

Top Gun sells the springs. I got the little kit with springs and several small parts.

Chatted this morning with Ken from Sig CS. He feels the problem is the slide catch spring, as widge indicated it might be.

I was given a Return Authorization Label, so Sig will cover shipping charges. Ken was great to deal with.
