P220 .45, but if you want a 1911 then the Sig forget about the Springfield.
Just my opinion since my 1911s are Ed Brown, Dan Wesson 9, 45 and 10, Colt ser70 and Sig. therefore not made w/o some experience.

One would think that after a year he would have made a choice by now. Perhaps he will see this thread and tell us what he got

Look about 2/3 of the way down page 2 of this thread. The OP re-opened his own thread after 13 months of inactivity.

In a year's time, he could have saved up for a Springfield Armory Pro.

I sold my Wilson Combat EDC X9 and went back to my Sig P226 Legion SAO. I have two other 1911s. They will live in the safe. I carry the Sig every day for duty. I recently won a shoot off at 130 yards with the 226. Bone stock. I bought two at the same time. After shooting one, one of my competition shooters offered me $50 more than I paid for it. I sold it to him, and I regret it. I haven't bought another because I eagerly await the SAO Legion 229 just to have a smaller package.

That’s quite a recommendation for the P226 Legion SAO! Love mine too.

Ruger 1911 is a lot for the money. Nice trigger, stainless steel and at a good price point.

Springfield (or maybe a Colt as has been suggested) - for a 1911 for the 1911 build, takedown, trigger, legacy as finally to teach with it. The majority of my students show up with their 1911's and up looking like mummy hands by the end of the day. If they are proactive enough, they start looking like a mummy at the beginning of the day before all of the sharper edges start tearing them up "running the gun". But the legacy and trigger system simply cannot be argued.... until the Legion showed up. The Springfield in particular, 80 series, seems to have the most commonly available parts and pieces for replacement if and when. I'm also thinking of the inherent design pros and cons of John Moses Brownings brainchild that's simply a must-have.

The Legion, is just beautiful, would also serve the purpose as being run like a 1911 but without being a 1911, and also unfortunately without our American traditional legacy (some might argue it's the beautiful child of all things good in the handgun world - just google it of course). I may never carry it though (maybe) because it may be the unique external safety gun where everything else is point as shoot for lack of a better phrase.

The Sig 1911, seems to buck all design and tradition of the rest of the 1911's and stand out on its own, which I lol at that and think that it may be TOO unique, but also in a good way, is it designed any better than the traditional 1911's? I've heard lots of critique against it though.

Thank you all again.

something isn't adding up with your posts:
* Mummy hands?? Why do they have mummy hands?
* You're an instructor and you're considering two, disparate platforms? As an instructor, how many of your customers show up with 1911's?

Anyway...something is odd here. Just saying.

The Springfield TRP would be my GO TO for a 1911 platform given the widest variety of parts and inter-compatibility from what I have heard, it's the most generic and well-made all the same, again, so I've heard.

I have looked at the Dan Wesson's, but I just can't bring myself to pay that much last I looked at prices for them. Great pistols from all accounts.

2- Ruger Commander. Shoots great. After a tune up from Action Works.
3- Sig XO. Shoots great. Round count about 2K.
4- Sig Nightmare Carry. Shoots great. Looks racy.
Have owned a Springfield Loaded Operator. Shot great but like an idiot, I sold it. My next 1911 will be a Colt.
Any Springfield or Legion would be great choice.

Thank you sir for your input.

I've never heard of the Sig XO. Eek
EDITED TO ADD: I just looked it up, and it's nice, but I want a rail (Rule 4).

I've actually been in and out and I haven't meant to ignore this thread for various times and for an extended period of time. I have been in and out of the state for military training and much has happened on the personal and business fronts, both good and bad for each, ah the joys of running your own business.

I've been sitting on this decision and perhaps come March when I return to my home state perhaps I'll make a decision as I cannot make one until then due to logistics of it just become a safe queen while I'm gone.

Yes sir, military obligations and such. I appreciate you guys holding me accountable. I haven't forgotten this thread and will have to check in a little more often and will have time to do such going forward, just not the right time to obtain such a pistol until March.

There's always one......

I'm thinking you either:
1. Haven't attended any training classes
2. Or no training classes that make you actually run a gun
3. Or you haven't attended any training classes with people running 1911's in general

Usually when someone shows up to say "something isn't adding up with your posts" they follow with some sort of cheap shot, some attack in some way, and/or some criticism. I don't know you and I'm sure you don't know me, but what followed is exactly what I called...

So I want you to be nice and clear what your intention here is.

If you are calling into question my Instructor Creds then, please, show up to my classes in Colorado, we'll be happy to have you and learning can be had (from your experience it looks like I might learn a thing or two, but hey, we'll also establish some rapport), let's go run some guns and share a beer after the range and the guns are put away, it'll be on me.

Out of the couple thousand students I've had thus far about 10% of them show up with 1911's and probably half or more end up with hands that look like they are converting over to a mummy (humorously) and this is completely normal given the edges of the 1911's which prompted me to ask the SigForum community for some input on the same.

Of all the 1911's I've handled, I don't rightly remember which one/s of those had the smoothest edges, but over those edges, I'm looking more at form and function mixed with compatibility with common parts and with all the input, as I suspected, the Springfield TRP Operator has come to the top in my mind.

As for the disparity in the guns, this *should* be obvious. The Legions and 1911's are entirely different, but what I failed to make clear is that I'm focusing on the .45cal. specifically between the Legion and the 1911's. I've found I like the triggers on both, but there's something really nagging me about picking up a 1911.

I'll likely get a TRP Operator in the Spring (March-ish) and report back with pictures, targets, my personal review (for whatever it might be worth), etc. as is customary around here.

The only thing I see "off" here is where you are coming from, sir, and I'd like to clarify anything that might be amiss before a misunderstanding is had and A-type personalities get interesting in interaction.

Thank you for your time.

Quite honestly, none of the above. A Colt Competition government in S/S. To me it has all of the bells and whistles I ever want in a 1911. It has a very good trigger, and the price is right at around $865. I bought one in 9mm, and the slide to frame fit and barrel bushing fit is incredibly tight and it's a great shooter.

I haven't attended a class since the 80's. Back then, I attended three different LFI, Chuck Taylor and Ayoob classes. It was long ago enough that it was only revolvers and 1911's. I carried a 1911 on my job. None of us (me or people at the class) had mummy hands.

I think you're missing my point though and you kind of answered why I thought it was odd:

Odd thing number 1 was why the thread was dead for a year. OK...you explained that. No worries. It was odd though indeed.

The other thing is that as I assumed, the vast minority of your "clients" come through with 1911's, as I expected, so I thought it was odd that you were considering one.

You shouldn't read more into than that.
