I'd steer clear of anything with SIG and 1911 in the title. Great gun to look at, but that is about it.

This, is what I'd been worried about, it came up among my fellow 3 Gun friends that the Sig 1911's just aren't cutting it. As much as I want one, because they are very nice to look at, it seems it would be like the arm candy variety that just leaves you wanting for something better.

Now, to find a Mil/LE dealer sometime that can deal the MC Operator because my local vaporized and turned into Galls, so now they no longer sell Glocks nor Springfields.

Yes MC Operator is THE bees knees!

For ME:
DA/SA= Sig 9mm
Striker fired= Glock 9mm
If it's a .45= 1911
Suppressed= HK in .45
I like anything in 10mm

^^ Yep. I bought a 226 Legion and it was like, "Where have you been all my life?" So I bought another one. I've thought about selling a couple of handguns that I don't often shoot and buying another Legion 226. It might sound crazy, but the more I think about it the more sense it makes.

I would go with the Legion. I got a legion about awhile back and it has become my go to gun. It has replaced my trusty P228 for everything but carry.

My wife has a P226 SAO; she also recently traded her Walther CCP toward a Sig Nightmare 1911 in 357SIG. She really likes that cartridge, at least in metal guns. (I don't have a G31/32/33 yet; I expect the 33 to be a bear, but I want one just because.) Another friend of mine is big into 1911s -- Springfield, Wilson, and Sig, and he says he uses Sig mags for his Sig 1911s and Wilson for everything else.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. I do long for a Wilson CQB (black slide, grey frame) though.

I say go for a Legion first and then a 1911. I just bought a Sig P220 Legion and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it feels great with an amazing trigger. I have had a Sig 1911, but didn't like it and sold it. I have a Springfield TRP 1911 and it is a great pistol, but it isn't something I carry.

I'm a 1911 fan. I have Wilsons, Springfields & one Sig. The Sig is OK, but I could never really fall in love with it. It hardly ever leaves the safe anymore. If you're going to get a mid-range 1911, I'd go with one of the Dan Wesson Valors, or a Springfield TRP.

Otherwise get a Legion.

I have owned all three. Actually, I have owned the Springfield Armory Range Officer Operator, a Springfield Armory Stainless Loaded 1911, SIG 1911R Nitron, SIG 1911 Carry Scorpion and SIG Traditional Match Elite Stainless 9mm - most recently picked up the LEGION P226 SAO 9mm. Of those, the LEGION SAO is the runaway favorite. Things might be different if I was willing to spend the $$$ on a much higher-end Springfield, like the TRP or something.

Don't own any of them but handled plenty of each. If you prefer single stack, DW Valor would be my recommendation. If you prefer double stack or don't care about weight/capacity, Legion SAO is the winner.

If a railed 1911 is what you're after, how about the one the Marines actually got (well sorta, since the civvy version ultimately did away with the Cerakote). Frankly I think the PVD Colt ended up better looking. So okay, I'm biased since I own one: Big Grin

I bought a P220 Legion in SA/DA for the purpose of winter owb carry and range fun.
It has become my favorite pistol and has the best out of the box trigger I have ever felt. I would not hesitate to get another Legion pistol in any of the platforms if funds were available to do so.

Of the three, given your purposes:

If it has to be a 1911, Springfield TRP Operator.

Otherwise, P226 Legion SAO.

Just saw a P220 Legion SAO on GB.

OR, if you can find one a P220 Elite Match 5" SAO.

OP, have you looked at the Colt CCU or the Dan Wesson Specialist for railed 1911s?

If you're looking at a comparable non-1911 SIG, I assume you're looking at P220 SAO? I could have sworn I saw a legion variant once but it isn't on their website...

One thing about the 1911, you can always get parts
for them. And, most repairs (if you need them) can be done yourself.

To me there is nothing wrong with the Springfield TRP.

My 1911s:
1- Citadel. (Rock Island or Armscor or something). Its a cheapie and looks internally like it was machined by a chainsaw. Shoots fine after I sent it back to Armscor for a poorly fitted slide release.
2- Ruger Commander. Shoots great. After a tune up from Action Works.
3- Sig XO. Shoots great. Round count about 2K.
4- Sig Nightmare Carry. Shoots great. Looks racy.
Have owned a Springfield Loaded Operator. Shot great but like an idiot, I sold it. My next 1911 will be a Colt.
Any Springfield or Legion would be great choice.
