Hello I have been lurking here for a bit, and I post on THR, and *gasp* glocktalk alot. I have been shooting my P226 alot more lately but I really can't ccw with it well. I have been carrying my G27 and I wanted to go to something more like the 226, but single stack. I have read the reports on the 225 and 239, and I am wondering on those of you who CCW with it, do you like it?

I truely think the glock is a great gun, but my sig is a tack driver, and much much more appeasing to the eye. I have heard a few rumors that the 225 dosen't like JHP, is that true? Any other thoughts about the 225 because I am planning on buying 2 so I can refinish them making one my "black" gun and the other a nice "shiney" one.

Oh by the way I really like how this site is not a bash on other gun types, and the maturity here is a refreshing experince.

Hi Kennewick100,

Welcome to the SIGforum.

I too have a p226 which I really like. Wanting a CCW that had the same feel and operation as the P226 I picked up a P239. Both guns will eat through JHP's which I use for self defense. For target shooting I use FMJ.

I also carry a P230 (has been superceded with the P232) which I think is one of the best .380's available. Same funtionality as the P226 except smaller, lighter and the position of the mag release.

Hope this helps.

Regards...........Jimpala

Hi Kennewick and welcome!

The rumor you refer to re: JHP applies to the P6, not the P225. Many of the P6s being imported won't feed JHP without some feedramp polishing, etc. Many here have had the work done by Customized Creationz and report being very happy with the results.

I have not seen anyone write about troubles with their P225 feeding JHP.

I have 2 P6's and a P239 and I would get the P239 if it is going to be my carry gun. Magazines are plentiful and reasonable priced compared to the hard to find P226/P6 magazines.
My Carry gun is a P239 40 S&W for which I also have 357 Sig Barrel and 357 magazines.

Try experimenting with a P6, basically the same gun (police trade-ins) The P225 will cost more moola and there is just tiny differences. Besides, you can customize the P6 to your tastes and still keep the price equal to the P225 Wink

P225 is a great gun. I carry one everyday and I love it. It's passed my Glock as the carry pistol of choice.

I borrowed this from another forum, I hope this answers your questions about the feed ramp.

If you need work done, look up Customized Creations here on the forum, they do work on these.

225 barrel on the left.

I love my 225 for concealed carry, not too heavy, and fits well under a shirt.

I haven't changed the hammer spring yet, but I plan to.

Welcome, My 225 feeds everything I throw at it. I was looking at getting a 239 in .40, but didn't know if it was worth the difference. It's only .25 inches smaller.

I have a P6 that has had about 800 rounds through it since I purchased it in September. I have fed it JHP, FMJ and Lead ball ammo all without a single mis-feed. I added a set of Pachmayer grips to it and last night I replaced the factory black sights with a set of adjustable 2 dot sights. (thanks to those on this forum who recommended getting a brass drift, that was the ticket to getting the old sights off without destroying the steel) I paid $289 for it at the September show here in Northern Virginia and I will be going back to the show on the 21st of November to see if I can pick up another one. I love it. It is easy to carry and shoots extremely consistently. It is a great gun, espescially for the $$ and I highly recommend it for anyone. It is the only one of my handguns I carry either open or concealed.

I think I am the only guy on the entire forum that dislikes the 225, so I feel it's my obligation to reply Wink

First, the 225 trigger sucks. Its long and heavy. Really heavy. And grainy. Did I mention that it's heavy? Because it's pretty heavy. Grainy too.

And the trigger guard scraps the bottom of my trigger finger every time I fire it. Before long I have a blister there, and pulling that really heavy trigger with a blistered trigger finger is no fun.

Other than that, it's a nice pistol, flat and small. I tried a lighter spring, which made the trigger much lighter. But then it didn't fire reliably. And the trigger guard issue still remained.

So, it sits in my safe. I have been told that every Sig enthusiast must have a 225, and so I do. But I think it forgot what ammo tastes like.

Oh, one more thing, the trigger is really heavy...

I've fired probably about 1,000 rounds of ball and a few hundred JHP's without a single problem. Mine is an '81 date code and I heard about the problems with pre-84's or whatever. I don't buy into it, mine has been nothing but reliable and I am definitely buying another one (I have noticed a slight increase in price, I knew I should have bought two when I had the chance).

I have a 239 as well as a 225. Both great guns. Feed everything I throw at them. Like
the shape of the 225 a little bit more.

I really love my 239 I bought in 40 but have a conversion barrel 9mm on my wish list but I also appreciate ol school P6 and enjoy shooting them "AT THE RANGE" but if I going to bet my life on my carry, all you need to do is read about all these issue's on the p6 that I don't hear about the P239 Gee is there really any question which one to carry.
