Mine was born as a .40 After a sex change, she's my EDC in 357SIG Smile
Flat shooter, and very managable. The CT lasers are a nice addition as well.

My 239 in 9mm is a wonderful shooter. Very, very accurate. I love it with +p ammo. I have never shot is in fory. Recoil is very mangeable with 9mm.

I guess if you're recoil sensitive, the P239 in .40 might seem heavy handed... But I'm not a particularly big guy and I've got a bit of arthritis in my right hand and I've got no problem shooting my P239 in either .40 or the .357 I use when I carry it. It does climb a little, making follow up shots more of a challenge, but surely not impossible.

I own 239s in 9mm and in .40, and while the 9mm produces less recoil, it's not enough that I find the .40 uncomfortable to shoot, even in extended range sessions. The reason I bought the 9mm version is that my wife had "liberated" my .40 after shooting it, and I've been shooting .45 and 9mm more than .40.

It's true that the 239 is a little heavy for its size, but it's not a brick. Also, it's very slim, especially in the grip, so it conceals very easily, even under a t-shirt. Which is the reason I kept the stock grips on it... that and the sticky rubber of the Hogues can catch on a shirt or other covering garment causing the gun to print or to bind up your draw stroke.

I don't care all that much about capacity. In .40 with a spare mag you can have 15 rounds handy. If you feel you need more, carry a second spare mag... that way you can avoid the problem of concealing a double-stack and still have additional ammo if needed.

If you are considering the Hogues because the 239's grips are too narrow, then you might look at one of the smaller double-stack Glocks. The G30 is that it's very accurate, but a handful. Not in recoil necessarily, but in how big a hand you need to have to grip it well. I have average-sized hands and it's not all that comfortable for me. The G26 and G27 fit better, but I thought the G27's recoil to be much more pronounced than the G30 or G27. It pounded the heel of my hand pretty hard.

If thinner grips are high on your list of priorities, then consider also the Kahr P9 or P40. I've shot both and really like the P9, but in the .40 it's not as easy to get second shots quickly and accurately.

I'm not overly sensitive to recoil either. There's a You Tube (or something) in the internet that shows a woman, in one and a little boy in another. They're both shooting the P239 40 cal. Anyway, I don't think the recoil will cause much problem.

Capacity is not a big issue with me either. This next statement will probably bring some opposing opinions, but mine is that if I need that much capacity, then I'm probably hanging out in the wrong places. I'm more concerned with concealability than I am with capacity. (just my opinion, based on my day to day lifestyle).

The main reason that I was thinking about the Hogue grips was that I thought they would be more ergonomically friendly. I was thinking that they might reduce a certain amount of, what I will call "perceived" recoil. I used to have a S&W model 27 (a .357 N frame) that had wood grips. When I took them off and replaced them with Pachmayr grips, it was a lot more pleasurable to handle.

Thanks for your input and perspective.

I also lost my 232 two-tone this way, too. Gotta love the woman. You should have seen the sparkle in her eye when she unwrapped the Romanian AK I bought her for Christmas last year.

This year it may be a 20 GA for skeet and upland game. (But don't tell her.)

The 239 in 40 can be a real handfull.

I have the 239 and 40 and find it to be easy to control. Recoil is manageable. Only concession I have had to make is to modify my grip to accomodate the smaller grip.

I won't say a word. Smile

I'm thinking your situation goes like this:
a) She's very lucky. (And so are you, in that she likes the 'hardware' so much.)
b) She's playing you.
c) You know she's playing you, and you're playing back, knowing that you can get "for her" the toys you really want. How nice!

Big Grin

Truth is, I've got my eye on a new 870... "for Mrs Vthoky." Wink Wink
