like many folks, i have never felt that the Glock pistols had the greatest grip shape. not that i ever had any trouble shooting them, i just thought they could be better for my personal taste. i didn't want to make big, permanent changes to the grip frame, so i just put it out of my mind. well, i recently picked up a Gen 5 with all the extra backstraps to go along with it. i thought i might mod the backstrap to my liking and not have to alter the actual frame. i am very happy with the results so far. here is the prototype i mocked up last night. it still needs to be painted to match the frame, but i am really liking the shape and feel of this one. i wanted it to feel more like my beloved HK VP9. i am sure i will refine it more as i tinker with other backstraps. i already ordered an extra set to experiment with in my down time. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." What are you putting on that to make it do that? And what's that base plate for your magazine? ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Whatever works for you. I've never felt the Glock angle is a problem. Not even a tiny bit. Q

i am using some plastic epoxy putty that i anchored to the factory backstrap. the mag pads are from Ghost, Inc, i believe. i am giving them a try as i found them on sale the other day. i also like the grip angle. very much. i just feel like the hump or curve of the backstrap is too low on the handle of the gun. i am just modding it to feel more like my Steyrs and HK pistols. they are the best feeling grip to me. it is an easy mod for me to do, so why not? worth a shot and i can always just take it off. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." I am one who has always had a problem with Glock frames, so I've had mine cut (Gen 3s) or done a P80 frame; I've stayed away from the Gen 4/5 for this reason. Just playing around with the backstraps now has me thinking (always a bad sign). ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Nice work, Dozer. Sure reminds me of an HK VP9. Lowsmith, tinkering with the backstraps is part of the fun with Gen 4’s and 5’s! I ordered a second set to experiment with fitting around a magwell. It worked out nicely and for a while, I had a magwell and a beaver tail on my 19. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

yeah, that is one of the reasons i got a glock. i wanted to customize it and they have a huge aftermarket. i just have not seen anyone doing backstraps with different shapes. a small change to the backstrap gives a big change in the feel of the gun in hand. and of course, i love to tinker around with my guns. my carry gun is the only one i have that hasn't been changed from stock quite a bit. it was just about perfect for me out of the box. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." Nice work but yikes(!)...a Steyr M9ish backstrap profile. Not really a 'cut' that ever worked for me but if it does it for you that's an excellent mod. -MG

i am gonna try a few different shapes and sizes until i get it down just right. i already have a friend who wants me to make them and sell them in his gun shop. i think the way i do it, it would be too expensive to sell to the average person. maybe i will find a less work intensive way to make them. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." I absolutely hate it. I have that stupid hump cut off, finger grooves deepened, and a trigger guard undercut.... finally 360 degree texturing. www.robarcustomsllc.com

Every time I got tempted by a Glock, holding it cured me. I don't like the feel. I don't doubt I could get used to it, but why should I? There are plenty of other similar pistols. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

i am still experimenting in between work orders. i found the feel was great but made it feel a bit thick. so, i am trying to design a very thin, but durable backstrap. i want to make something that doesn't require a permanent modification of the grip frame. it may come to naught, but it is something fun to fiddle with in my down time. i bore easily, so i am constantly working on little projects. heck, i have cerakoted my .300BLK about 4 times now. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." If it works for you , more power to you. I just wish the tang/beaver tail was a slight bit longer without having to add a back strap.

Looks like you basically made the grip profile that matches the browning hi power.

dubagel, you may be on to something. i know the old hi power is one of the most comfortable pistols i have ever held. minus the hammer bite. i always had to change out the hammer on them. dozer "She's got a cherry-handled pistol in her lollipop pocket." Five Horse Johnson

I have a Gen3 glock 19, actually I have several. Along with a Gen3 26 and gen5 19. But you are definitely spot on with your grip mod. Your grip frame profile looks exactly like my BSS modded frame. With the stock Gen3 always feel the gun points about 2 degrees higher when drawing forcing me to subconsciously tilt my wrists down when shooting. With the Razorback gun is level when pointing, feels more natural. You will probably notice that too modding your backstrap. Anyway,I had Ben at Boresight Solutions, who is a super awesome dude BTW, do a Gen3 g19 frame for me. I actually went down to his shop when I happened to be down near their on vacation. I didn’t quite know what I wanted other than the stippling. He has so many different mod features and packages. So I “tried on” some of the different frames he had. He had so many variations and they all looked great, I couldn’t choose. So what I did was I closed my eyes and picked up each one to see how they feel and took the look and features out of the equation. Bingo!! I tried like 10 or 15 different ones and found the one that felt the best. So I got the duty package with finger groove removal, all around 1.5 grip reduction and Razorback. That’s where he removes the rear backstrap lower bulge/cavity and adds backstrap material higher up. I said to him this feels just like my browning hi power. He’s says that’s strange, no one ever said that or made that comparison. He also said when he designed that grip mod he was using the BHP. Think the BHP is still the benchmark for semiauto pistols even after 86 years. As for the Steyr grip, I have the m9a1. One of the designers of the Steyr pistols is an ex Glock engineer think his name is Bubbets. Anyway he wasn’t a fan of that empty rear lower bulge/cavity either and wanted to get rid of it along with some other Glock changes which Gaston said no. Lol

I never could stand or even force myself to like the grip of Glock Pistols. Gen 3's just too fat and the finger grooves forced my grip uncomfortably up. Gen 4's, a little bit thinner but those finger grooves just could not do it. Then the Gen 5 arrived. Handled one at local store and it was a perfect fit. To get my feet wet, I picked up a G5 G19 and fell in love, then changed a few things to my liking. The 19 turned into a 26, 43, 48, and 17 and Plocks (34 & 19). The grip/grip angle may not be for everyone but for those who are on the fence, give the Gen5's a try.
