I handled a P238 Nitron the other day. It felt great in my hand. The price is $429 + tax. I amlost bought it, but remembered reading about how FUBAR they were on this forum. I decided to do some research on the 238. It seams that its a 50-50 shot at getting a good one. This really gives me the red-ass because I really like this little pistol. Im not interested in an LCR or Kel-Tec.
Why is it that Sig can build the SP2022 (I love mine) and hit a homerun and completely FUBAR the P238? How many members here have a 238 that didn't have issues or had to be sent back to Sig? |

The information in the post is FUBAR. The Nitron P228 is a great pistol. It's German made for crying out loud. Now I'm referring to the non rail gun. I can not speak to the new version on the P229 frame with a rail. That's ain't no real P228 anyway. It's more like a current military version.
Real P228's have no rails. Almost forgot: I have sold many and have a few personal P228's and not one has had a problem. All were good. |

I LOVE my P238. I carry it daily, it's a tack driver (for such a small pistol), easier to shoot than other pocket .380s, has proven to be reliable with several different JHPs.
Personally I don't give a rat's @$$ what the Nay sayers here have to say...I always wanted a Mustang Pocket Light and now I have one (kinda)! |

Uh, Fish......... that'd be a 238.
I've been on the rail as well. A friend of mine just picked his up a couple of weeks ago and has put about 200 rounds through it without a hitch. Bein' as how there's not a factory round of 380 to be found in the state, we've been reloading. He was lucky enough to get on Midway when the planets were aligned and got a couple boxes of XTP's. I'm about halfway through a box of 1,000 95gr LRN's with my LCP. Rainbow finish slide. Need I say more?
Ranks right up there with "pink guns" and "carbon-fiber" Walther P22. However, I don't own one, and have never fired one. They might be great...I promise I'll never know. |

Sorry but I can't talk you out of one. While mine did have an issue with feeding, I sent it in and it was back in 6 days. They replaced the extractor and I've run about 900rds thru it trouble free since its return. I can't believe the accuracy of this pistol. I've never shot something that small that shot so well.
Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six |

The biggest drawback for me about the 238 is 380 ammo cost.

There's a fix for that finish....BUY A NITRON VERSION. By your logic, no one should buy a S&W 642 (as well as many other guns these days) because they are AVAILABLE with pink grips. |

Right back at you! I have two P238s one has been back to Sig twice and still Fails to Eject just like it did the first trip to the range. I've spent hundreds on .380 ammo and still have a gun that is NOT carry worthy. It's a jammo-matic POS. Good luck dealing with Sig C.S. regarding a P238 as well. BTW: Besides not functioning... Everything else about the is great. It's accurate, no recoil, light/slim, and good looking. Maybe I'll put mine in a display case. |

I'm sorry to hear about your luck. I would talk to someone higher up the chain @ Sig about your problem. Have you tried NEWER mags? I understand the first ones where problematic. I'm mainly addressing those that poo-poo the design...it is sound (based on the proven Colt Mustang). Mine spends zero time in my safe. |

I guess my biggest issue is that I would have to carry such a small gun (in my pocket) in a cocked and lock condition. I too love the feel of the gun compared to the other pocket sized 380s but the SAO configuration for a pocket pistol is not something I am comfortable with. Yes, I suppose I could get a holster for it but at that point why not carry something more powerful.
MPrimo Sigs, Glocks, 1911s, M&Ps ... well, you get the point! |

Hey 45Caldan: thanks for the reply. I see where your coming from now. I do really like eveything about it except the FTE part.
Our other P238 is my wife's. I've put maybe 50 rounds through it without any problems. I've got another 100-150 .380 rounds set aside for hers; however I want her to shoot them/practice. So we'll see. Your right about the mags. I have four new factory ones. No difference. (still fails) I've emailed Jason and Sig technical service twice (no response). At this point I'm only waiting to see how my wife's does. If it has failures I'll go nuclear. So my advice to the O.P. Is yep you've got a 50/50 chance of either being really happy or really unhappy. |

I hardly agree that the carbon fiber is in the same ranks as rainbow and pink... |

Mine has been great. It has some issues with limp wristing if you run the cheap armscor through it, which is understandable as it is way to light of a load. The defensive rounds never hiccup. If a person was going to run a lot of armscor light stuff they would want to run a lighter recoil spring. Normal tuning things.
Great Pistol |

I have a Nitron P238 with rosewood grips and it has not been recalled. My other handgun is a 1911 which is uncomfortably heavy for carry and difficult to conceal in T-shirt-and-shorts country. The P238 fits my need for a small, easy-to-conceal weapon.
My round count on the 238 is up to 300 without a single hiccup. While I have Sig mags, I prefer Colt Mustang mags with the pinky extension. The Colt mags hold 7 rounds. From what I've read, the safety issue and the Sig mag issue seem to have been fixed. That's not to say that a bad gun occasionally gets out the door. And Sig customer service needs improvement. But, if I had it to do all over again, I'd still buy the 238. Good luck! |

OK.........it's an outdated .380! I'd much rather a S&W 642 no lock for the pocket, or real pistol for holster carry.
Ken An opinion without personal experience is just wishful thinking. |

What's "talking me out of it" is not having the money right now, otherwise I'd LOVE to have one. After having, and STUPIDLY selling, a Colt Gov't Model 380 I've always wanted something along those line again. It's the perfect size when one really needs to conceal a pistol.

I love mine, no issues here. The gun is boring, in the sense that it just does what it is supposed to do and quite accurate for what it is.

I have a Blackwood version. I think that it is a great little gun. Clearly the magazines are the issue. They are aware of it and hopefully will get that worked out soon. Long term, it will be a great pistol.

Fire up the Sawzall. Do something like this. Post pics like: Epic thread material right there. I've got a couple SIG products that are candidates but no Sawzall. Yet. |
