My first Sig purchase about two months ago was a P220 Carry SAO which operates much like my 1911's and Browning HP in terms of loading and throwing on the rear safety and then carrying it cocked and locked. Since then I have bought 5 DA/SA Sigs and it just dawned on me that when I take them to the range I load a magazine and rack the slide and shoot the rounds so I'm always in single action. The only time I ever fire double action is when I dry fire it.

So tonight I loaded each of them and went into the back yard and pointed them at the ground and decocked them. You probably think I'm nuts but I never owned a gun that where the hammer moved other then when I pulled the trigger and fired it.

I wanted to make sure that none would malfunction in my kitchen or living room and cause a huge problem. The good news is they all worked as advertised and now I'm a confident and happy camper.

Your laugh for the night

Nothing wrong with being sure and being safe.
Though... the range may have been a better place to test them. Razz

You really ought to do some DA shooting and DA-SA transitions to learn how to get first round hits.

That's my next trip to the range. It will be a lot of DA first shots with second SA transition shots.

Definitely practice that DA shot.

A few pointer that I learned from one of the greats. Start with a nice slow stroke and pull all the way through. Don't yank at the trigger. Smooth is what you want. Speed will come. You can start rolling though your pull as you are extending the gun froward. You should already have made the decision to shoot at this point. You want to get to a point that your sight fall on your target as your pushing the gun forward and finish the pull as your arms become extended.

The great thing about the Sig DA/SA system is that when you press the Decocker, the finger that does the decocking blocks the hammer from falling all the way down so there's no way you can possibly break off a shot without your finger on the trigger.

It took me a while to get the hang of the DA. I'm used to it now. My first shot is always DA.

When you can shoot double action as good or better than single action, you will then be a black belt in the world of the DA auto.
Keep on shooting.

Are there actual freaks that exist that can shoot the DA better than SA? Smile I need to practice the DA too, I also just rack at the range and shoot SA only.

Everytime I hit the range I run mozambique drills (two too the center of mass and one to the head) starting in DA with the second and third shot transition to SA. The more you do it, the better you get. Smile

I don't know anybody who shoots better DA than SA, but a lot of people who can shoot as well DA and stick with it so as to not have to learn two systems. Most PPC shooters use DA for all stages out to 50 yards. Of course a well tuned .38 revolver is a horse of a different color from a crunchenticker auto.
A few NRA shooters worked on DA in the revolver era but none of the major big champions.

I start all of my holster drills DA. I figure that's what my first shot's going to be anyways.

My P250 (dao) really REALLY improved my DA shot on my other guns.

I'm a better shot with double action SIGs (especially DAKs) than I am with guns equipped with single action triggers. That's true whether I'm shooting for precise accuracy or combat-style high speed shooting.

That said, the reason it's true is because double action shooting is what I've concentrated on for the past several years to the tune of several tens of thousands of rounds. If I had fired all that ammunition with a single action trigger, I'd no doubt be better with that trigger mode. But if I had done that, would I be a better shooter than I am now with DAO? Probably not, and certainly not in any meaningful way.

I don't believe proficency with the single action mode—especially as part of a DA/SA system—would confer any benefit to me, and would impose some disadvantages. That's why I prefer and rely on double action only.
