If I didn't get my hand pinched on most reloads (I was shooting IDPA with mine) I'd still have it. The "toe" makes the magazine base plates too large.

1. Make the grip a hair longer to avoid pinching on reloads.
2. Trigger break a little further away from the frame.
3. SRT.
4. Flat mag bases as an option to purchase. Or thrown in.... Sig's choice.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. It is a pretty nice pistol overall.

If the frame is long enough, make it in 7.62x25.

If you want to really upgrade the SP2022, do the following:

Make a new FCU with a steel bars running between the old FCU and the front locking block, in this way it would make the new FCU the serialized frame similar to the P250 and P320. (have the rear held into the frame with a cross pin like a beretta PX4 and leave the slide stop to bind up the front)

This would allow Sig to sell frame shells and different top ends in a large variety of shapes. sizes and calibers.

So should we read anything into the fact that the 2022 is on the cover of GUNS magazine this month for no apparent reason?

I purchased an SP2022 9mm for my son's first pistol. I wanted his first handgun to be a DA/SA hammer fired. Love it, very rugged pistol. The only addition I'd like to see would be different grip modules.

Do you mean different from the small, medium and large that they already have? Admittedly the large is hard to find.

I love mine, and plan to continue to use it until I cant shoot it straight. I love it, had it since early 2014, so I dont know if I have any of those issues ya'll are mentioning. I've never had it pinch, and never an issue with assembly. I will agree trying to find the trigger break for a double is a PITA for the simple fact it's close. Half the time i'm quicker to just pull full reset pull.

I carried a Sig pro 2340 for 9 years. It had a great DA/SA trigger. It had a useless rail which has been fixed. My only real gripe was my thumb would sometimes ride on the slide stop release and prevent the slide from locking after the last round fired. I would like to see it with a slide release and takedown lever like the P226. I thought they could have made the grip like the 226 with a built up ridge below the slide release that would have taken care of the problem. I also thought the frame/grip was a little short and that could have increased magazine capacity. I never had a problem with it biting my finger.

Made it a tad slimmer.
Remove the pop up lci.
Keep the finish like the Euro ones have (forgot the fancy name it has).

Bringing that back is unlikely, since EPA regulations apparently prohibit the use of that chemical process in the US.

I agree with a non-rail frame and longer grip front. Also would maybe change the cocking serrations by making them a little more pronounced and full slide height.

They are going about this in ALL the wrong ways.

You want a decocker DA/SA that's modular. What is being suggested here is simply a new pistol entirely, not a mod of the 2022.

Bring back a modified P250 with a spur and SA notch on the hammer {redesigned FCG} and you are done. I think it would be way easier to modify a 250 FCG to SA/DA than to do what is being suggested here for the 2022. For that matter, it would seem easier to engineer a brand new FCG that is compatible with the 250/320 grip modules. All the same grips available takes care of the whole ball of wax.

Not sure exactly how to swing a decocker on it, but that is what engineers are for. I suppose it could be a swinging lever placed similarly to where the safety on the 320 gubmnt model is? Just make sure it is long enough for southpaws like me to reach it with the trigger finger.

Regarding using P250/P320 grip modules - there would need to be an additional cut in the frame for the decocker to fit.

Here's the thing. SIG has all of the tooling paid for when it comes to the 2022. Making minor adjustments to the pattern isn't a big cost. Taking a grip module that isn't even close to design, and completely re-engineering it to make it fit isn't in the realm of reality. The FCU unit on the 2022 and 320/250 are not even close to compatible.

Making the 2022 take 320 grip modules is pipe dream. (However, a DA/SA 320 might not be, as I know it has been prototyped using a 250 chassis).

I doubt that will ever materialize. However, there is an upsurge in interest in the DA/SA again. Who knows? Smile

You will see a relaunch of the 2022 at some point. It is highly possible that some of the suggestions here may make it in. I do expect that a short reset of some sort will be incorporated.

I'm not sure I qualify as a bonafide fan, but I have liked shooting the gun in the past.

It feels solid in hand as is but making it a little thinner would be more beneficial for carry. The DA/SA is pretty good for a trigger genotype I usually don't prefer, but its reset could stand to be a bit shorter. Make the takedown less 'wonky', more like that other poly gun of theirs, the 320. Or at least more friendlier like other guns that use a combo takedown lever/slide stop (HK P30). Ideally for me, give it more of a Glock-like grip angle; I can shoots SIGs reasonably well but few augment my particular muscle memory set. Off the draw I have really work and concentrate at getting the muzzle up with most SIGs, including the SIGPro. Not 'natural' at all for me.

But the biggest 'game-changer' for me would be to have a compact version. That and the grip angle would create a gun that I could really get into...and nary a striker firing pin to be found nearby.

I'm not suggesting such a thing.

I'm saying that many of the suggestions here are so radical they would demand a redesign of the whole pistol. If SIG wanted to proceed with a new SA/DA, they might as well start from scratch and come up with a design that has some level of compatibility with their flagship. Of course it would require a whole new FCU. That's the point. I think it is obvious they have a paid-for design they could make little {mostly insignificant} mods to and come up with a "new" {hype} "improved" model.

Will be interesting to see what they do, if anything.

The 2022 is a great pistol as-is, of course. I'll be glad if they just keep servicing it.

Here are my thoughts.
Make it slightly shorter.
Shift the grip angle a little to make it more like the classic series.
Use 226 / 229 mags.
SRT
Ok, basically make a poly 229.
