Nah. After the plethora of designs the Kimber CEO, I mean the current Sig CEO has created as of late, I prefer the regular Sigs. However, the top and the melt job are well executed.

Interesting comments. The flow of a gun should (IMHO) be function first and form second. But they are so close together that is is almost imperceptible where one ends and the other begins. Of course there are some exceptions. Service or work guns are all function (well, almost anyhow). The finish is a matter of corrosion protection but also creates a good portion of the form.

Is there any universal truth in function or form when it comes to guns? Where does the X-5 fall on the function/form scale?

Just my thoughts as I was reading the comments and thinking about whether or not it was important to have a better grip on the slide of an X-5. Glock is 98% function but has a finish that is further towards the scale of smooth and less bite in the serration category than lots of other offerings out there.

I think it's a good looking piece and will give the owner much satisfaction.

Love the serrated top slide (sorta like back to the future)! The offset "grippers" are, um, interesting. Not sure I like the look, but, if they work better, what the heck!

Looks like a fairly aggressive "melt" as well - very nice... One of these days, when I'm made of money, I'm REALLY going to have to send you some of my stuff.

Regards,

Kevin

I'd have to agree. Nice top. No-go on the sides for me.

I like the top and the melt job. No comment on the sides. Smile

I'll let him tell you that. He's posted here already and I think it's up to him to say what he likes and doesn't like.

I didn't want to assume anything. Sounds like the customer is pretty happy.

Wait 'til you guys see the rest!

It may be more polarizing yet...

I think once complete everyone will be more surprised, as GGI is pulling out the stops on this one. I do like the side of the slide but the top is something I'm REALLY excited about...I just dig the lengthwise serrated top...a whole a bunch.

I asked for this gun to be a best of class USPSA racer and that is where we are going...light and fast...with a few personal tweaks - some out of Flork/Bruce's head - some out of mine.

Some of you won't like it...some will...some will yell blasphemy...I like it and since I'm the owner I guess that is what really counts...

And don't ask me the cost...ask them yourself Wink I don't kiss and tell.

Stand by!!

I look forward to seeing the end result.

I can't help customizing every gun I own.
Even my carry guns...
As much as I think I'll leave them stock when I buy them.
I end up, getting something plated or polished.

You're right some will like it, some won't.

As long as you're happy.

I think the slide looks great.

Far be it from me to judge another mans tastes in firearms, wives, autos, or beer. If you like it and can pay for it then more power to you. No one NEEDS an X-5, when a Glock could do, but it is the continued opportunity to posses many things that we don't NEED that makes this country great. I just hope that my children are able to collect and enjoy the same things that we can when they grow up regardless on NEED. Cookies, pie, cake, or ice cream, we all deserve a choice.
