I've been looking into the P239 and P229 for replacing my 2022 for carry and noticed that SIG lists the overall height on the P229 Elite at 5.1 whereas they have it at 5.4 for the standard P229. The length is different too, but that is due to the beavertail...which makes no difference for me. Is there a noticeable difference in height between the standard and Elite for those who have handled both? I'm really liking the P229 Elite stainless, but I need to see that it is a little more compact than my 2022 (even if by a little) to justify getting one. That's my excuse that has the wife on board with me getting a new SIG, trying to keep some peace in the home... Big Grin

I just picked one up on Tuesday. I don't know about the difference is size, but there is a big diff in weight.

If you plan on carrying one of these bad boys you had better have a good belt and holster.

They weigh the same as a full sized 1911.

Sweet gun though.

Sorry to rain on your parade there, pardner, but the P229 ST (regular or elite) will be a handful compared to your SP for regular carry. The 229 will feel thicker if it is not actually, and there will be a sifnificant difference in weight.

Don't get me wrong, I love the P229, especially the ST models, but I don't think I'd like to carry one around all day in lieu of the SigPro.

Yep, buster is totally correct. I happen to own a 2022 9mm and a Sig 229 Elite , and the weight difference is huge. The Elite is a a chunk of stainless steel and weights as much as a full size 1911 fully loaded . The Sig 2022 is a feather light compared with the Elite , has a 15 rds mag , against the Elite 13 rds and you can carry it all day without any concern . Buy the Elite , which is , in my humble opinion a fantastic gun , a very hi-end gun , and keep the 2022 for carrying.

I took delivery of a new P229 Elite Stainless on Tuesday and can easily backup the weight claim. They are quite heavy; however, they are built like tanks. When they say that Ruger revolvers are over built, consider the stainless version of the Elite to be in the same category. The quality and construction is second to none, but in my opinion, definitely not a carry piece.

Have you looked at the P250 or perhaps, just a regular alloy framed Elite? For a daily carry, the alloy frames can't be beat.

Here's my duo, and I love em both. I've already mentioned that the 2-tone is the most accurate Sig I own, or pistols for that matter. And certainly some of the best smoothest triggers out of the box...it's a fact for me!

I always have to chuckle when I read how an all Stainless Sig is "too heavy" to carry.

What did the millions of us gun owners carry before polymer?

All steel or all stainless...that's all there was.

You guys remind me of those matchbook covers that were popular when I was a kid of a skinny weakling on a beach standing next to Mr. Atas. Big Grin

Get a decent belt and holster and enjoy your ST for CCW!

my 2 cents. I went 229 elite to replace a 229 sas because I decided DAK wasn't for me. The elite is now the favorite range gun and with a procyon tac light and CTC grips it feels great having it at my bedside. Because of build probably, that beaver tail doesn't work for me when it comes to carry. I'm going with the 229 sas gen II for the next purchase (picked up a 239 sas gen II from VA arms earlier this year). to me it is everything you want in a DA/SA, without any of the BS you could care less about (i.e. I will never use those 'pretty' wood grips that came on my elite).

I almost purchased the elite myself. I'm not a fan of stainless guns unless they are show or range guns but that's me. Anyways I went with the 229 SAS Gen. II. I carry all day every day w/ a CrossBreed Supertuck IWB. Haven't had any problems and the comfort is great! I'm still considering getting a 239 SAS Gen. II to add to my collection. I'd probably end up carring it as well when I wanted to wear something more comfortable. Highly doubt I'll need more then 1 mag for either gun. I don't plan on getting in a gun fight. If that situation arises it just wasn't my day!
