Probably HK (since I have three now: P30, P30L, and USPc 45); but you can't go wrong with Walther (since I have three now: PPS, P5, and P99); or maybe Kimber (one so far), or how about Glock (one, but I appreciate them now)?

It's gotten to a point where every manufacturer is getting close to the top of their game. Sure they each might screw up something now and then, but for the most part, all the well known/respected manufacturers get it right the vast majority of the time. In fact, I'm thinking about getting back into the SIG market with one of their 1911 XOs. I've been away for a little while and have found a reason to return.

I'd recommend either a 1911 or USP/USPc.

Ruger Speed Six in 9mm. 40? Well, S&W did make a run of pre-keyhole L-frames in .40 S&W. Nearly bought one, but was a bit broke at the time. Hey, nobody said I had to choose an autopistol! S&W also made the M547, a K-frame in 9mm.

Then, there is the Colt Model P, a.k.a. Single Action Army, available in .38 WCF, a.k.a. 38-40, actually a true .40 in bore size.

Really, though, I would go with one of the recently-announced Les Baer 1911s in .40 S&W.

Already replaced my home and carry guns with Glocks.

Hard to beat a G34 with 33rd mags in the house, or a G23 on the belt.

I do keep my Sig P220 upstairs fwiw.
